Arthur Staple, of Newsday, reports New York Giants OL Bob Whitfield announced his retirement on Sirius radio Monday, Feb. 12.

New York Giants OL Luke Petitgout (ankle) was placed on Injured Reserve Tuesday, Dec. 26, because of his high ankle sprain. OL Bob Whitfield will continue to replace him in the lineup.

New York Giants OT Luke Petitgout (fibula) will not go on Injured Reserve with a fractured left fibula. The team hopes to get Petitgout back in time for the postseason or possibly before the end of the regular season. OT Bob Whitfield will replace him at left tackle.

Head coach Tom Coughlin could shuffle his lineup and put OG David Diehl at left tackle and move OG Rich Seubert at left guard.

Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports former Atlanta Falcons OT Bob Whitfield, now with the New York Giants, is still upset in the manner in which he was released from the team in 2003. In an expletive-laced interview with the New York Daily News, Whitfield said he would like to be in a room with Falcons president and general manager Rich McKay so he could "really tell him how I think of his [stuff]. That is what you need to write." Whitfield added, "I don't talk to punks. I'm not disgruntled. He has to do his job. I've got to do mine. Just from a man-to-man perspective, he could have told me, dog." Whitfield claims McKay led him to believe he'd be part of the team in 2004, but Whitfield heard through the media that his job security was uncertain. He was then but before the regular season started, which helped lead to his grudge.

New York Giants OT Luke Petitgout (back) is not listed for the injury report for Week 1. Head coach Tom Coughlin will keep an eye on him during the game and will be ready to pull him in favor of OT Bob Whitfield if it appears Petitgout's back is acting up.
