"He's got a great track record," Upton said. "He had some good things to say. He said he'd been watching me for a while and, so to speak, threw his two cents in."

Carew played seven seasons for the Angels, hitting .314, with a .393 on-base percentage. Carew also picked up his 3,000th hit with the franchise. He finished his career with 3,053 hits, good for 21st on the All-time list.

Carew will assist in several facets of the front office, including corporate partnerships, marketing, community affairs and broadcasting. Minnesota already has former greats Harmon Killebrew, Tony Oliva and Kent Hrbek working for the club in similar capacities.
