Cardinals | Grimm does not think coaches have advantage Tue, 27 Jan 2009 10:46:23 -0800 Mike Sando, of ESPN.com, reports Arizona Cardinals assistant head coach/offensive line coach Russ Grimm said he does not think the Cardinals have an advantage over the Pittsburgh Steelers because he and head coach Ken Whisenhunt used to coach for the Steelers. He said they have been away from the Steelers too long to have an advantage during the game.

"Transition's never easy, particularly at a place like this that has had great stability," Tomlin said. "Some organizations get quite used to change; this is not one of them, thankfully. So you don't expect it to be easy or comfortable for everyone, but not concerned about that at all."
Steelers | Faneca hoped team would hire Grimm as head coach Sun, 11 Feb 2007 09:34:31 -0800 The Pioneer Press reports Pittsburgh Steelers OG Alan Faneca hoped the team would hire former offensive line coach Russ Grimm after head coach Bill Cowher retired. The team decided to hire Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin and allowed Grimm to leave for the Arizona Cardinals, where he is an assistant head coach. "I wanted Russ to get the job," Faneca said. "It's a guy we know, and a guy I'm experienced with. I hoped Russ would get that opportunity, but it didn't work out. When Cowher retired, everybody in the league wanted two of our guys, so you'd think we would want at least one of them."

"Let me put it this way: We made Russ a finalist, and I think at that point we felt he was somebody we seriously were considering for the job," Rooney said. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for Russ and I do hope he gets a shot to be a head coach; I think he deserves it. I think it is fair to say he came close."
