Former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley is unlikely to return to the Arizona Cardinals' coaching staff. Talks between Haley and the Cardinals have been amicable; however, coming to agreement on a position that meets the Cardinals' needs and matches Haley's career goals has been elusive. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt doesn't want to make a major shakeup on his offensive staff. The only open position is the quarterbacks coach job, and Haley may not be open to such a role after serving as both an offensive coordinator and head coach in the past.

"Larry is obviously not making the decisions," Whisenhunt said. "There's a lot of things that guys want that they don't necessarily get. That's why I have individual meetings with them to get their ideas. It would make sense to at least talk to some of your players."

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said Friday, Jan. 28, that if he is coaching in 2011, it will be with his current team and not the Arizona Cardinals, reports Mark Kaboly, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. ESPN reported that LeBeau was interested in joining friend and head coach Ken Whisenhunt of the Arizona Cardinals. "I promise you: If I'm coaching, it will be the Pittsburgh Steelers," LeBeau said.

"I have great respect for Billy as a caoch and a friend, but when you go 5-11 you're forced to make some tough decisions, and this is one of them," Whisenhunt said. The Cardinals finished the 2010 season ranked 29th in total yards allowed and 30th in rushing yards allowed.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt is mulling changes to his coaching staff, according to Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic. It is uncertain if Whisenhunt will make any changes, but there has been much speculation about the future of defensive coordinator Bill Davis, who has held the job for two years. The Cardinals defense finished the 2010 season ranked 29th in total defense and last in points allowed. "I know there will be changes," Whisenhunt said. "I don't know what that is going to encompass, but we're going to make sure that we work to not have another season like this."

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells said he did speak with head coach Ken Whisenhunt about his role in the team's offense, but Wells also said he did not mean to sound disrespectful by complaining to the media, according to Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic. Wells laughed when asked if his comments got him in trouble. "I did tell him I didn't mean it in a disrespectful way," Wells said. "If you read the headlines, it came off like Beanie is really angry about a certain situation. I'm angry about not being out there contributing. I love being an Arizona Cardinal. Coach understood where I was coming from. No doghouse at all." Whisenhunt replied, "I understand Beanie's frustration. We're all frustrated at the way things have gone for us. It would have been my preference that he would have talked to me about it before ... but those things happen."

"I think going forward at this point, yes, we are considering them," Whisenhunt said. "Our guys have worked hard on the practice field; I don't have any problems with that. But we're not getting it done on game day. If you're not executing, if you're not getting it done, you have to look at the potential for changes. I don't want to hit the panic button. I'm not anywhere near that point. But it is something you do look at, absolutely."

Whisenhunt has taken additional steps to keep the players fresh. The Cardinals have enjoyed "Victory Mondays" - a day off after a win - more often this season. Last week, Whisenhunt gave his players Christmas Day off, meaning they had three days off the week of the game.

Whisenhunt said he turned in the list of inactive players to officials just before the deadline, and then approached Boldin as his locker and told him he wasn't playing. Two witnesses to Whisenhunt's conversation with Boldin said Boldin would not look at the coach during the conversation.

"I think that … yesterday we stunk," said Whisenhunt. "There were a number of factors that were involved with that. I think we need some success in this next game. I do believe that this is the same team that has shown it can play good football and beat anybody in this league. … We're going to play a playoff game no matter what happens. I think the most important thing for our football team is that we play well and establish confidence this week. I want to win at home."

Cardinals | Coach thinks Warner should get MVP consideration

Mike Tulumello, of the East Valley Tribune, reports Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said he believes QB Kurt Warner should get some MVP consideration because of the numbers he is compiling. "I certainly think he should be given consideration for it, absolutely. He's playing at a high level," Whisenhunt said. He is on pace to throw for 4,862 yards this season.
