Chargers | Ken Whisenhunt re-joins Chargers

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 12:44:48 -0800

Former Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt has been hired as the offensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers. Whisenhunt was San Diego's offensive coordinator in 2013.

Fantasy Tip: This is especially good news for the Charger's passing game. Philip Rivers was the sixth-highest scoring fantasy quarterback in 2013, Antonio Gates was a top-ten fantasy tight end and Keenan Allen tallied over 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns in what was his rookie season. Melvin Gordon should also play a prominent role; Ryan Mathews totaled 285 carries for 1,255 yards and six touchdowns when Whisenhunt last had command of the offense.

Titans | Tennessee plans to start Marcus Mariota

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 18:52:07 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota is the planned starter from Day 1, head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: The Titans will have to find a balance between Mariota's dual-threat ability and Whisenhunt's more traditional pro-style offense, and there will likely be some growing pains. Assuming Mariota ends up opening the season as the starter, consider him a low-end QB2 with some upside.

Titans | O-line holding back Bishop Sankey?

Tue, 11 Nov 2014 09:00:25 -0800

Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey currently ranks fifth among rookie running backs this year with 360 yards, and he's averaging 3.9 yards per carry, and he has just one carry longer than 20 yards in 92 chances. He had 38 yards on his first nine carries in Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens, but produced just 20 yards on his final eight carries. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said the offensive line needs to do a better job of opening up holes for the rookie running back. The team is choosing to use RB Leon Washington in third down situations. "I think Bishop will still get a chance to protect and to catch passes on first and second down," Whisenhunt said. "But one of the things you try to be consistent with is the protection and working together with those things on third down."

Fantasy Tip: Sankey is waiting for his breakout game, and it could come in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night. However, the O-line must improve, and the rookie is more of a flex option for your FantasyScore lineups.

Titans | Titans coach, GM safe

Fri, 07 Nov 2014 09:22:38 -0800

Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt's and general manager Ruston Webster's jobs are safe, according to chief executive officer Tommy Smith. However, Smith said the team's offensive line might need to be shaken up. "We spent a fortune to build this line," Smith said. "I am committed, I've told the coach, I don't care when someone was drafted or what they're paid, if they're not getting the job done, to get somebody else."

Titans | Will simplify offense

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 15:20:46 -0700

The Tennessee Titans will simplify their offensive scheme, because they are only averaging 15 points a game this season, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt. "I think that will give us a chance to play faster and a chance to be more effective. Because it's the little details we're making mistakes on. If we can get more reps on it in practice, maybe that will help us be better in the game," Whisenhunt said. Whisenhunt said he expects the offense to make progress as the season goes on.

Titans | Delanie Walker injured

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 13:44:22 -0700

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury in the team's Week 3 game. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt will update Walker's condition later in the week.

Fantasy Tip: Walker has played well so far this season and has become a part of the team's passing game. Owners will need to monitor his practice participation before deciding on their Week 4 lineups. Owners on FantasyScore may want to spend their money on healthier options at tight end.

Titans | Not eliminating fullback

Thu, 22 May 2014 10:32:25 -0700

The Tennessee Titans are not eliminating the fullback from their offense, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt. "We will have a spot for a traditional fullback, maybe 15 to 20 snaps a game,'' Whisenhunt said. "If we get into a situation where we have the lead and we go into a four-minute offense, it will be an integral part of it. Now there may be some games where we don't have a lot of (fullback) snaps, so it will depend."
