Rose Jr. will start his sentence June 5.
Thu, 10 Nov 2005 23:35:52 -0800 The Cincinnati Enquirer's John Erardi reports former Cincinnati Reds 1B Pete Rose knew his son, Pete Rose Jr., would be charged with conspiracy to distribute drugs and that he has already hired an attorney to help out. "He's my son; I knew about it last spring," said Rose. "I'm the one who got (him) the attorney...(Pete Jr.) is a good kid. He stepped forward and admitted his mistake. He accepts responsibility for it."
Mon, 07 Nov 2005 11:51:42 -0800 The Associated Press reports Pete Rose Jr. pleaded guilty to charges that he distributed GBL, a drug sometimes sold as a steroid alternative, to his minor league teammates. The indictment said Rose admitted he received GBL from a person in Tennessee while a member of the Chattanooga Lookouts, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
He also said he supplied half the players on that team with the drug. Rose said his teammates would take GBL to "wind down" after games, DEA spokesman Rusty Payne said. Under a deal with prosecutors, Rose could be sentenced to 21 to 27 months in federal prison and fined up to $1 million. His sentencing hearing is set for Feb. 20.

According to a news release from the JackHammers, Rose will be competing at the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate, Colorado Springs, throughout spring training.

Tue, 20 Jan 2004 08:31:34 -0800 The Associated Press reports Pete Rose Jr., the son of baseball's career hits king, is returning to the independent Joliet JackHammers, where the infielder was an All-Star last season in his first year with the Northern League team. Rose, 34, played 78 games for Joliet last year, batting .260 with four home runs and 38 RBIs. He played 38 games at first base and 32 at third base. Rose started at third base in the All-Star game and won the home-run derby at the skills competition.
