ESPN.com reports the trial date for four of the five men charged with the killing of former Washington Redskins FS Sean Taylor has been postponed for a third time. The new date is Jan. 18, 2010, according to The Washington Post. The trial was scheduled to begin this month. "We don't think there will realistically be a trial before next spring," said Terry Chavez, the Miami-Dade state attorney's office spokesperson.

If the detective does not finish his report by April 28, the cop will go to jail. Court documents released Monday, March 10, state the mother of a teenage girl rented a black Toyota Highlander, thinking the girl and her friend planned to attend a football game in Orlando, Fla. The mother told officials she did not know the girls would allow young men they knew to use the vehicle. The daughter confirmed Charles Wardlow and Eric Rivera as the men who drove the vehicle. Wardlow, Rivera and two other men were charged with the murder of Taylor.

The Associated Press reports the gun that killed Washington Redskins FS Sean Taylor was placed in a sock and thrown into the Everglades, according to an attorney of one of the suspects. Attorney Michael Hornung said Friday, Dec. 21, that his client, Venjah Hunte, is cooperating with prosecutors in hopes of a plea deal and wants to help find the murder weapon. Hornung said Hunte has told prosecutors that one of his co-defendants got out of the car on the highway known as Alligator Alley in the eastern part of the Everglades. Another defendant put the gun in a sock and threw it about 20 yards onto the side of the road, according to Hornung. The four suspects have filed not guilty pleas to first-degree felony murder and armed burglary charges and are being held without bond. They are due in court for arraignment Friday, Dec. 21.

The Associated Press reports 17-year-old Eric Rivera, the accused gunman in the killing of Washington Redskins S Sean Taylor, wants to work with prosecutors to resolve the case. Sawyer Smith, one of Rivera's attorneys, said, "When the State Attorney's Office is ready, we would like to sit down and begin discussion with them so we can move towards a resolution in the case that has the best interest of all parties in mind. We want to minimize the impact of case resolution on the Taylor family and find a result that's in the best interest of justice." Smith added, "Plea negotiations are typical in criminal cases. However, we don't know when or if that will occur."

Police spokeswoman Linda O'Brien identified the men and said the charges for each had not yet been determined, but "we are talking murder and burglary." The four men were arrested in southwest Florida, about 100 miles from Miami. They will be booked into the Lee County Jail and eventually will be returned to Miami.

The Associated Press reports Washington Redskins S Sean Taylor (groin) died Tuesday, Nov. 27, after getting shot in his home. He was 24 years old. Family friend Richard Sharpstein said Taylor's father told him the news around 5:30 a.m. EST. "His father called and said he was with Christ and he cried and thanked me. It's a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man, and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans," Sharpstein added. Doctors were encouraged late Monday, Nov. 26, when he squeezed a nurse's hand, but Sharpstein said he was told Taylor never regained consciousness after being taken to the hospital and was not sure how he had squeezed the nurse's hand. KFFL sends their condolences to his family and friends.

According to police officials, it appears Taylor was a victim of an attempted robbery. He was flown to Jackson Memorial hospital and underwent emergency surgery and was listed in critical condition. A hospital spokeswoman said Taylor's father requests the details of his condition not be released. Several TV stations have reported that Taylor was shot in his femoral artery at least once. In an interview with a Virginia television station, RB Clinton Portis said Taylor is in grave condition. "I've been told he lost a lot of blood, and he's fighting to hang on. So pray for him, and hopefully he keeps fighting," Portis said.
