The St. Louis Rams view RB Isaiah Pead as the successor to starting RB Steven Jackson, even though Pead looks more like a change-of-pace or third-down back. Pead was reportedly coveted around the league during the NFL Draft and would not have lasted on the board much longer after the 50th overall pick.

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher feels RB Isaiah Pead can be an impact player, and he liked what he saw from the MVP of the Senior Bowl. "Isaiah has got great change of direction quickness, vision, a jump-cut runner. He's got acceleration, he's got hands out of the backfield," Fisher said. "He's just a great change of pace runner that we need here right now for (RB Steven Jackson). He's a smart young man. We had him in for the 30 visit. No problems whatsoever grasping concepts of offense, so he'll be able to help us."

St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson has not asked the team for a new deal, according to team officials. Jackson has two years left on his current contract and is due to make $7 million in both 2012 and 2013. Sources familiar with Jackson said he does not have a problem with his current contract.

The team will not pay Jackson $7 million in 2012 to share the job with a player certain to eclipse him soon. Head coach Jeff Fisher reportedly loves Richardson.

"You're talking to the wrong person. I want as many of them on the roster as you can get."
