Falcons | Steven Jackson has hammy issue

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 15:16:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) injured his hamstring Monday, July 28, which is why he wasn't practicing Tuesday, July 29. Head coach Mike Smith said Jackson will be ready for the team's first game.

Fantasy Tip: This is not what you want to see from an aging running back entering his age-31 season. Jacquizz Rodgers and Devonta Freeman could have heavy workloads if S-Jax continues to be bugged by nagging injuries all year long.

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 23:35:52 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman will be groomed into the team's three-down back of the future, and he might battle RB Steven Jackson for playing time this year if he continues to look good. The battle for the third running back will be between RBs Antone Smith and Jacquizz Rodgers.

Falcons | Steven Jackson may have short leash

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 09:28:36 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson, who is entering his age-31 season and likely only has one good season left in him, could find himself with less playing time if he is slowed by nagging injuries in 2014. Until then, though, Jackson is considered the team's starter.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson dealt with some nagging injuries last year, and by the end of the season, he looked just plain old and lacked explosiveness at the line. Don't be surprised to see Devonta Freeman handle more of the work as the season progresses, with S-Jax handling goal-line duties. If you own Jackson, Freeman is a necessary handcuff.

Falcons | Mike Smith believes in Steven Jackson

Fri, 28 Mar 2014 11:08:57 -0700

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith is optimistic that RB Steven Jackson will bounce back from a disappointing 2013 season in which he played in only 12 games due to a hamstring injury and averaged a career-low 3.5 yards per carry. Jackson finished the year with six touchdowns in the final six games, however. Atlanta uses a committee at running back with Jackson and RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson has always been injury-prone, and now that he's on the wrong side of 30, that'll become more of an issue. More usage of Rodgers and Smith would be wise if the Falcons want to keep S-Jax healthy over the full season. His numbers from last year should be what you should expect moving forward, especially in a committee backfield.

Falcons | Want to run Steven Jackson more

Tue, 12 Nov 2013 21:06:22 -0800

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter wants to lean upon RB Steven Jackson more than he has since the running back returned from injury. "My opinion is Steven Jackson is a workhorse running back and we haven't been able to work him," Koetter said Tuesday, Nov. 12. "I mean, I think Steven is one of those guys that gets better the more he touches it." Jackson's season-high for carries is 13 against the Carolina Panthers.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson is averaging a career-low 3.2 yards per carry, but he has been injured. Koetter's plan to get Jackson more carries is great news for fantasy owners. However, Jackson and the Falcons face a difficult matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11, as Tampa ranks fifth in the league in rushing defense.

Falcons | Steven Jackson practicing

Thu, 24 Oct 2013 10:54:28 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) is participating practice Thursday, Oct. 24. Jackson did not suffer a setback and is expected to play in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson is probably a risky play if he gets on to the field this week. He will likely split time with Jacquizz Rodgers. Also, the Falcons matchup against the Cardinals is not a great one. If you have other options, you may want to consider them this week.

Falcons | Steven Jackson practices

Wed, 23 Oct 2013 11:15:09 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, but he'll need to make it through practice this week without a setback in order to start in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals. RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling have combined for 319 yards on 93 carries with Jackson out.

Fantasy Tip: Expect to see plenty of Rodgers and Snelling, even if S-Jax suits up. This makes him a risky RB option this weekend.

Falcons | Steven Jackson believes he will play

Wed, 23 Oct 2013 10:39:35 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) said he plans on playing in the team's Week 8 game.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson has missed the last four games because of the injury, but it appears like he will be able to play Week 8. There is a good chance that he could be limited if he does play, so owners should lower their expectations for him. He should be considered a No. 2 running back or a flex option if he is in the lineup.

Fri, 18 Oct 2013 12:48:15 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling probably will continue to share snaps at running back but could be more involved in the passing game because of Roddy White's injury. Rodgers and Snelling should be considered as No. 2 running backs or flex options this week.

Falcons | Steven Jackson misses practice

Thu, 03 Oct 2013 14:25:23 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 3. Jackson observed practice in shorts and hasn't practiced since injuring his hamstring in Week 2. However, head coach Mike Smith is optimistic about Jackson, but he won't return to action until he's 100 percent healthy. "We're not going to rule him out at this point in time," Smith said. "He's working hard to get back. And we'll have to see how the rest of the week plays out."

Fantasy Tip: We don't expect S-Jax to be back this weekend, given the fact that Atlanta has their bye in Week 6. It's very realistic for Jackson to return in Week 7, making Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling very short-term values.

Falcons | Steven Jackson might miss two more games

Mon, 23 Sep 2013 17:44:01 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) is expected to miss the Week 4 game against the New England Patriots, and he might miss another two to three weeks, according to a league source. The team has a bye in Week 6, so he might be held out until Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Oct. 20. Jackson suffered a setback in Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams, exiting that game immediately. His injury was originally called a thigh injury.

Fantasy Tip: With Jackson sidelined, RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling will continue to fill in. The duo combined for 139 rushing yards in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins.

Falcons | Steven Jackson may miss 2-4 weeks

Tue, 17 Sep 2013 09:46:50 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (thigh) may miss two to four weeks with a thigh injury. Jackson is listed officially as week-to-week.

Fantasy Tip: If Jackson canít go, Jacquizz Rodgers would likely get the majority of the workload, and is worth an add until Jackson is healthy, especially if you need help at running back. S-Jax is up there in age, too, so his healing process could take longer than expected. At least for this week, consider him unlikely to play.

Falcons | Steven Jackson uncertain for Week 3

Tue, 17 Sep 2013 05:53:56 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (thigh) is uncertain for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: These are the risks you take with Jackson, who has a history of frustrating, minor injuries that have limited him. Jacquizz Rodgers would take his place, with Jason Snelling filling in on the goal line. With Roddy White banged up, this could significantly slow down the Dirty Birds' offense and put more emphasis on stopping Julio Jones.

Fri, 16 Aug 2013 10:41:21 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson had a strong outing in the team's second preseason game. Jackson had eight carries for 42 yards and also had a catch for 13 yards after a slow start in the first preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: A much better showing for Jackson after a slow start in his first preseason action. Jackson should continue to get stronger as he gets more familiar with his new surroundings and should be a solid RB2.

Falcons | Tony Gonzalez thinks team can have perfect offense

Wed, 17 Jul 2013 11:35:55 -0700

Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said he believes the team can have a perfect offense after adding RB Steven Jackson this offseason. "Obviously, we're led by [QB Matt Ryan]," Gonzalez said. "With him pulling the trigger, with [WR Roddy White], [WR Julio Jones], myself, we're going to try and soften up that defense a lot where they got to stand back and play off us a little bit. That is going to make big holes for a guy like Steven Jackson, and we should hopefully go out there and be the perfect offense."

Falcons | Steven Jackson may not play much in preseason

Sun, 07 Jul 2013 08:15:02 -0700

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter indicated RB Steven Jackson may not receive much playing time during the preseason because he is an experienced runner but will allow head coach Mike Smith to make the decision. "Coach Smith will determine how many carries he gets, but I don't believe Steven Jackson needs a bunch of touches in the preseason. You can only run inside zone, outside zone so many times. He doesn't need to go out there and prove himself. Preseason is live tackling and getting your running backs beat up in the preseason, I don't see the benefit. Coach Smith will determine how many carries he gets," Koetter said.

Falcons | Jacquizz Rodgers unsure about role

Sun, 23 Jun 2013 18:08:04 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers is uncertain how the carries will be split following the offseason addition of RB Steven Jackson. Last season, free-agent RB Michael Turner (Falcons) handled 66.4 percent of the carries by the team's RBs (222 of 334 carries). Rodgers had 28.4 percent (94 carries), with RB Jason Snelling handling 5.2 percent (18 carries).

Fantasy Tip: The team has big plans for Jackson, but Rodgers plans to learn as much as he can and be ready when his number is called. As far as his fantasy value, he is a decent addition later on draft day, especially in points-per-reception (PPR) leagues.
