Jeff Walcoff, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports the Cleveland Browns have signed free agent S James Boyd and have allocated him to the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe. Terms of the deal were not released.

The Florida Times-Union reports Jacksonville Jaguars S Donovin Darius (hip) practiced again on a limited basis and likely will share time at strong safety against Tennessee with second-year pro Ainsley Battles and rookie James Boyd. Head coach Tom Couglin said there's a good chance all three will share time to keep all three players fresh.

According to the Times-Union, Jacksonville Jaguars LB T.J. Slaughter (knee and ankle) practiced on a limited basis today and he could be back in the lineup Sunday. LB Danny Clark, last week's starter, continued to work with the first team. Starting SS Ainsley Battles (knee) did not practice today. Rookie James Boyd worked with the starters in his place.

The Florida Times-Union reports Jacksonville Jaguars S Ainsley Battles is still likely to start this weekend but head coach Tom Coughlin said on Tuesday he's not ready to name Battles as a starter for this weekend's game as of yet. Rookie S James Boyd, who was not happy with Battles being named the starter last week, is also in the mix. Coughlin plans to watch both Battles and Boyd in practice before naming a starter.

The Times Union reports Jacksonville Jaguars rookie S James Boyd is unhappy with coach Tom Coughlin. Boyd has been forced to share time with newly signed Ainsley Battles during practice as they attempt to take over for S Donovin Darius, who is out with a hip injury. Coughlin has yet to name a starter at strong safety for the September 23 game against Tennessee. Coughlin is reluctant to start two rookies in the secondary now that rookie Marlon McCree has won the job at free safety. Boyd said he expressed his displeasure to Coughlin during a meeting this week.

SportsLine.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed rookie S James Boyd, a third-round selection, to a three-year deal worth $1.28 million. The deal includes a $384,000 signing bonus and base salaries of $209,000 (2001), $298,000 (2002) and $389,000 (2003).
