Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli said he is playing OG Barry Stokes at right tackle in place of OT Kelly Butler because he wants to see how different guys look in different positions. Stokes is working at the position due to the injury of Rex Tucker (knee). "He's played (tackle)," Stokes said of Butler. "We have lots of different looks out there of different guys that gives us position flexibility. We'll get a chance to look at different guys in different spots."

The Associated Press reports the Detroit Lions morning practice, Tuesday, Aug. 16, included a couple of skirmishes. One involved OT Kelly Butler. He said his brushes with teammates are just his way of intensifying practice. Head coach Steve Mariucci, who called practice Monday afternoon, Aug, 15, "sluggish," took pleasure in seeing Tuesday's extracurricular activities. "We need that," Mariucci said. "There are some tempo-setters on this team, some tough guys who love the game."
