Contrary to previous reports, the New York Yankees have optioned SP Brian Gordon to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make room for SP Bartolo Colon (hamstring), who has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.

New York Yankees SP Bartolo Colon (hamstring) is expected to come off the DL to start against the New York Mets Saturday, July 2, after throwing before the game Thursday, June 30. He will be replacing SP Brian Gordon in the rotation. The team could go with a six-man rotation when SP Phil Hughes (arm) returns.

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday, June 22, that SP Brian Gordon remains in the rotation for now. He was pounded for four earned runs and five hits, including three homers, in five innings in the second game of a doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds. He threw just 49 of his 74 pitches for strikes. "Obviously he's gotten an opportunity because we have other people who are hurt," Girardi said. "Besides the few mistakes that he made, he did OK. But his mistakes were big mistakes."

New York Yankees SP Brian Gordon allowed just two earned runs and seven hits for a no-decision against the Texas Rangers in 5 1/3 innings Thursday, June 16, in his debut for the team after being signed earlier this week. He walked three and struck out three in the 84-pitch effort.
