Twins | Ervin Santana set for Sunday

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 11:13:29 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana is set to return from his 80-game suspension and start against the Kansas City Royals Sunday, July 5. Manager Paul Molitor said the team could move a starter to the bullpen or go with a six-man rotation to make room for Santana in the rotation. Santana tossed eight scoreless innings in his third and final rehab start for Class AAA Rochester Tuesday, June 30. General manager Terry Ryan is against a six-man rotation, but in this case it would only be for a week heading into the All-Star break. Santana had a 1.84 ERA in 20 1/3 innings with 11 strikeouts and four walks in his three rehab starts in the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Santana ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should immediately be snatched up if he's available on your league's waiver wire. He can definitely make a big impact for your pitching staff in the second half. On FantasyScore, it's a big risk to go with Santana immediately against the Royals Sunday. KC is an aggressive club that strikes out rarely.

Twins | Ervin Santana near return

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 15:03:08 -0700

Minnesota Twins manager Paul Molitor said he has not determined how the starting rotation will be reshuffled when SP Ervin Santana is eligible to pitch on Sunday, July 5.

Fantasy Tip: Santana ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will definitely be inserted, but the question is who leaves. Speculation had Tom Milone ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) being removed, but Trevor May ($5,400, 10.8 of cap) could be a casualty with a 4-6 record and a 4.62 ERA. Or Molitor could go with a six-man rotation. Stay tuned to see what happens.

Twins | Ervin Santana getting closer to return

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 17:52:10 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Santana ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will make one more start in the minors before being activated. He is tentatively set to make his return to the majors July 5, but FantasyScore owners should wait one or two starts before using him to see how effective he is.

Twins | Ervin Santana has successful outing

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 11:26:17 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana (suspension) allowed one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings in his first start for Class AAA Rochester Saturday, June 20, with two walks and three strikeouts. He threw 53 of his 88 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Santana ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is tentatively set to return to the majors July 5. Avoid using him in FantasyScore immediately after he is activated but seasonal owners in AL-only and deep mixed leagues should consider stashing him if he is still available.

Twins | Tommy Milone could lose rotation spot

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 17:28:10 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone could lose his spot in the starting rotation when SP Ervin Santana is activated from the suspended list next month.

Fantasy Tip: The Twins have not made an official announcement on who will be bumped from the rotation, although Milone ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) hasn't pitched poorly enough to lose his spot. He is 3-1 with a 3.67 ERA through seven starts this season.

Twins | Ervin Santana to begin rehab stint

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 18:02:47 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana (suspension) was scheduled to work five innings or 75 pitches Monday, June 15, in an extended spring game Monday, June 15. After that he will move his rehab to Class AAA Rochester for at least three rehab starts beginning Saturday, June 20. He will throw six innings or 90 pitches Saturday, then 100 pitches June 25 and 95 to 105 pitches June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Santana is making his way back from an 80-game suspension for steroids. Avoid him in FantasyScore until he can officially return and get into a groove once he comes up for Minnesota. His debut for the Twins is tentatively set for July 5.

Twins | Ervin Santana throws Friday

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 17:19:13 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana threw 45 pitches in an extended spring training game Friday, June 5. He will be eligible to return from his 80-game suspension in approximately one month.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to stash Santana ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) in AL-only and deep mixed fantasy baseball formats. Avoid using him in FantasyScore until he has demonstrated that he will be able to pitch as effectively this season as he did in 2014.

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana threw 42 pitches in a live batting practice session Sunday, May 24, as he prepares to return from an 80-game suspension in early July.

Fantasy Tip: Santana will likely crack the rotation at some point, but he is still a couple of months away from having any use at FantasyScore.

Twins | Ervin Santana receives 80-game ban

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 13:34:30 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana received an 80-game suspension without pay Friday, April 3, after he tested positive for Stanozolol.

Fantasy Tip: Santana can be dropped in the majority of leagues, as he is only a stash candidate in AL-only and cavernous mixed formats. Check back for an update on who will replace Santana in the rotation, but early candidates include Mike Pelfrey, Alex Meyer and Trevor May. Whoever joins the rotation won't push the needle in the majority of formats, though.

Twins | Ervin Santana working on four pitches

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 12:27:29 -0800

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana has started to throw a changeup and a two-seam pitch in addition to a fastball and a slider. Santana said he started to have confidence in those pitches so he has worked them in on a more regular basis.

Fantasy Tip: Santana is trying to keep his career renaissance going as he threw 179 strikeouts last year and posted a 3.95 ERA. He may make for a decent pitching option in deeper mixed leagues, but switching from the NL to the AL and wondering if the comeback will last are two question marks.
