Kansas City Royals SP Ervin Santana struck out seven and gave up one run and two hits in four innings Wednesday, March 13, while throwing 35 of his 53 pitches for strikes. He finished the day off in the bullpen and got up to 60 pitches.

Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore dismissed reports that SP Ervin Santana was dealing with a small ligament tear in his right elbow. "If our medical people hadn't cleared him, we wouldn't have done the deal. He's no different from anyone else who is pitching," Moore said. Santana had elbow issues back in 2009.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim exercised SP Ervin Santana's $13.5 million option for the 2013 season before trading him to the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim could explore the possibilities of trading SPs Dan Haren and Ervin Santana before their 2013 options are due in a couple of days, according to executives of other teams. However, it may be hard to trade either pitcher based on their disappointing seasons. The Angels aren't expected to exercise either option, which would make them free agents. Haren's option is worth $15.5 million and Santana's is worth $13 million.

SP Yu Darvish will work in Game 1 against SP Zack Greinke, while SP Derek Holland will work against SP Ervin Santana in the nightcap.
