Twins | Ervin Santana hurls complete game

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 23:35:12 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana allowed two runs on seven hits over nine innings against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, July 26. He walked none and struck out five.

Fantasy Tip: Talk about efficient, Santana went the full nine innings and didn't even reach the 100-pitch plateau. The Twins offense mustered just five hits and no runs, however, dropping Santana to 3-9 in the process. Still, it was another strong performance from the veteran, who is 2-2 with a 2.02 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP over his last seven starts. His strikeouts aren't great during that time -- 31 in 49 IP -- but he should be owned in all deep leagues and even possesses some standard value.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur in Tuesday lineup

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 14:49:39 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur is in the lineup Tuesday, July 26, against Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur is likely batting because the pitcher does not have to, what with the game in an American League ballpark. Francoeur doesn't start very often, but he should not start here. With only two hits in his past seven games, Francoeur isn't burning up the lineup.

Twins | Ervin Santana stellar in no-decision

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 15:58:16 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana continued his solid pitching as of late in his outing Wednesday, July 20, against the Detroit Tigers, though it only resulted in a no-decision. The right-hander went seven strong, surrendering one run on six hits and a walk. He also picked up a pair of strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Although Santana's strikeout totals have usually been low, he's now recorded a quality start in five of his last six assignments, en route to bringing his ERA down from 5.10 to 3.93 over that stretch. Considering his proven track record over many years at this level, and the fact his home starts occur in a pitcher's park, owners should be considering adding Santana across most formats.

Twins | Ervin Santana throws first CG since 2012

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 15:24:08 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana pitched a complete game shutout Wednesday, July 6, against the Oakland Athletics, en route to claiming his third win of the season. The veteran right-hander surrendered only two hits on the day, while striking out a season-high eight batters and walking no one.

Fantasy Tip: In case you haven't noticed, Santana has really come on in his past handful of starts, and is actually flirting with value right now in mixed leagues. In fact, he's given up two runs or less in four straight outings, dropping his ERA from 5.10 to a much more respectable 4.06 in the process. Considering his home venue is a pitcher's park as well, owners would be wise to check him out in many leagues.

Rangers | Texas interested in Ervin Santana

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 04:59:56 -0700

The Texas Rangers were looking at Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana during his most recent outing.

Fantasy Tip: The club would like to add depth to its rotation for the second half and Santana could provide valuable innings. He's currently 2-7 but has a decent walk-to-strikeout ratio (26 walks, 60 strikeouts). It is likely his numbers would improve with a better lineup hitting behind Santana as well.

Twins | Ervin Santana good in no-decision

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 21:19:16 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana allowed two earned runs, three hits and three walks with five strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision Friday, July 1, against the Texas rangers. He threw 70 of his 117 pitches for strikes in the quality start.

Fantasy Tip: Santana has a 2-7 record over all this season, but he has started to chip away at his high ERA. He has allowed just five runs over the past three starts in 18 2/3 innings, dropping his ERA from 5.10 to 4.50. He is still not worth using in most mixed fantasy formats.

Twins | Ervin Santana takes another loss

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 04:58:23 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana surrendered five runs on 10 hits Tuesday, June 14, in a 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Santana, who is now 1-7 overall, has a 7.71 ERA in his last five losses.

Fantasy Tip: One word: No. Santana has pitched so poorly it won't be a surprise if he loses his spot in the rotation or simply gets designated for assignment once some of the Twins' younger arms are ready to go. Granted, Santana hasn't had much help from the Twins' shaky offense, but he hasn't contributed much either.

Twins | Ervin Santana looks for turnaround

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 23:20:29 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana takes the ball Thursday, June 9, against the Miami Marlins. He has lost his past three starts while allowing 14 runs over 16 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Santana is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues right now, and he cannot be trusted in DFS even with a tempting low price tag.

Twins | Solid outing for Ervin Santana

Sat, 14 May 2016 17:51:21 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana allowed one run on five hits while walking one and striking out six over six innings in a win over the Cleveland Indians Saturday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Santana has held opponents to three or fewer earned runs in every start this year, and he is worth a look in deeper mixed and AL-only formats.

Twins | Ervin Santana activated

Fri, 06 May 2016 11:26:53 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana (back) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 6. C J.R. Murphy was optioned to the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Santana is expected to start against the White Sox Saturday. He was sporting a 3.15 ERA in four starts this year and deserves to be rostered in deep mixed leagues. However, his first matchup back isn't a great one. Consider keeping him out a little longer.
