Wed, 11 Apr 2012 16:06:49 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Vernon Wells, who is off to a 2-for-14 start this year, is back in the lineup Wednesday, April 11. However, 3B Mark Trumbo is sitting on the bench in favor of OF Alberto Callaspo. Callaspo is 12-for-33 (.364) with two homers in his career against Minnesota Twins SP Carl Pavano. Trumbo made three errors in his first two starts at third base. "At the very least, we're going to 'spray-chart' him and get him some starts there," manager Mike Scioscia said of Trumbo. "If he plays above that, he'll get more. He got a good (early) workout today and I really think he's going to play at a higher level than what we've seen in his first two games over there."
Thu, 29 Mar 2012 14:24:36 -0700 Based on what the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have seen out of 3B Mark Trumbo at third base this spring, they are more confident that he can handle more starts at third base in the regular season. "The test of the season is more difficult than some of the things you might see in the spring. I think with Mark's makeup and with what he's shown with his agility and the ability to make the routine plays that ceiling has definitely moved off that 40-game range to where we're very excited about how many times we're going to have his bat in the lineup at third base. ... I think hopefully we're going to anticipate moving off that minimum level," manager Mike Scioscia said. The team wants INF Maicer Izturis to focus more on playing shortstop and second base this year, but he'll occasionally see time at third base with Trumbo and 3B Alberto Callaspo.

Both worked out together on the backfields and were chatting with each other all afternoon. The two are non-roster invitees to camp, and there is currently no spot on the roster for either. One might open if the team makes a move, and many expect that to happen. If 3Bs Alberto Callaspo or Maicer Izturis is moved, Cantu might have a spot. If OF Bobby Abreu is dealt or won't report, Langerhans might work his way onto the roster. "I think they're both really interesting to us," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Ryan's a guy that is a left-handed bat, and is a good defender in the outfield. And Jorge is really interesting, because this guy was an RBI machine."
