Braves | Erick Aybar placed on disabled list

Sat, 28 May 2016 12:39:07 -0700

The Atlanta Braves have placed SS Erick Aybar (foot) on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right foot. He was hit by a pitch from Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley in the fourth inning and left the game during the following inning. X-rays came back negative.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar was batting just .182 with four doubles and six RBI through 148 at-bats before getting injured. Daniel Castro is likely to see the bulk of the action at shortstop in his absence but he is not a great option in any fantasy format. Gordon Beckham and Chase d'Arnaud are also possibilities to receive time at short.

Braves | Several ATL regulars sitting out Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 10:16:52 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Ender Inciarte, SS Erick Aybar and INF Chase d'Arnaud are not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen Saturday, May 28. OF Mallex Smith will bat leadoff and play center field, 3B Adonis Garcia will bat seventh and play the hot corner and INF Daniel Castro will bat eighth and play shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is batting .288 with two doubles, two triples, three home runs and eight RBI in 66 at-bats this month and makes a decent outfield option in NL-only and deep mixed leagues because of his speed. Garcia and Castro are batting a combined .180 (11-for-61) with two RBI this month and should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Braves | Erick Aybar hit in foot

Fri, 27 May 2016 21:04:51 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar (foot) was replaced by SS Daniel Castro after being hit on the right foot Friday, May 27. X-rays were negative, and he is day-to-day with a bruised right foot.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar is hitting just .186, and Castro's .204 mark isn't much better. Neither player needs to be owned in any fantasy format.

Braves | Nick Markakis, Erick Aybar sitting

Thu, 26 May 2016 14:47:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis (rest) and SS Erick Aybar (rest) are not in the lineup Thursday, May 26. OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in right field and batting sixth, while SS Daniel Castro is in at shortstop and hitting seventh opposite Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: If defense counted in fantasy, Castro would have a little more value, but with a dead bat, he really shouldn't be on any rosters. Francoeur, meanwhile, is the definition of a dart throw, as he's capable of providing some pop with the lumber once in a blue moon. Both guys can be left on the wire.

Braves | Kelly Johnson, Erick Aybar out

Sun, 22 May 2016 09:47:25 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Kelly Johnson and SS Erick Aybar are not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff Sunday, May 22. 3B Gordon Beckham will start at second base, while SS Chase d'Arnaud will start at third base and is batting second. 2B Daniel Castro will start at shortstop and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Castro has been pretty quiet over the past week, while d'Arnaud has posted a .474 batting average during the same span. Owners probably can pass on Castro in most leagues, but d'Arnaud can be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues.

Braves | Erick Aybar back in starting lineup

Fri, 20 May 2016 12:39:06 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar (throat) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting seventh against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Nola Friday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: You're best off avoiding Aybar in all fantasy formats after the way he's started the year. He has a .174/.207/.205 line with no home runs, five RBI and only two stolen bases. Aybar has been pretty useless to fantasy owners.

Braves | Erik Aybar sustains unique injury

Thu, 19 May 2016 13:59:48 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar (throat) got a chicken bone stuck in his throat eating lunch, and he had to be sedated by a physician to have the bone removed.

Fantasy Tip: This likely won't keep Aybar out of the lineup longer than his Thursday absence, but you'll want to check back for any updates. Light-hitting Daniel Castro (.207 batting average this season) is filling in for Aybar Thursday, and Castro stands to handle the 6, if Aybar misses additional time.

Braves | No Erick Aybar Thursday

Thu, 19 May 2016 12:27:47 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 19. SS Daniel Castro is starting at the 6 and is batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke.

Fantasy Tip: Castro has been seeing decent playing time moving around the infield as a defensive specialist. His bat, on the other hand, isn't nearly as good. He has just 18 hits in 87 at-bats (.207) and has zero power to speak of. Avoid him in all formats.

Braves | No Gordon Beckham Wednesday

Wed, 18 May 2016 12:28:06 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 18. SS Chase d'Arnaud is starting at the hot corner and is batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano. SS Erick Aybar is starting at second base and hitting sixth, while SS Daniel Castro is at shortstop and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: None of the Braves infielders tonight aside from Freddie Freeman have much upside at all at the plate, so you should look in another direction.

Braves | Erick Aybar out of Tuesday lineup

Tue, 17 May 2016 12:09:16 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar is not in the lineup Tuesday, May 17, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. 2B Daniel Castro will start at shortstop and bat seventh against Pirates SP Juan Nicasio.

Fantasy Tip: Castro is one of those players that will get you fantasy points in leagues where fielding counts, and those leagues are few and far between. Castro doesn't have a ton of fantasy value and should be left alone in all but the deepest of NL formats, where you may have more roster space.
