Angels | Jose Briceno acquired from ATL

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 17:48:20 -0800

Updating a previous report, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have also acquired C Jose Briceno from the Atlanta Braves, along with SS Andrelton Simmons, to complete a deal for SS Erick Aybar, Ps Sean Newcomb and Chris Ellis and cash considerations.

Fantasy Tip: The 23-year-old Briceno is not considered a major prospect. He hit .183 with four home runs and 20 RBIs in 311 at-bats for Class A Carolina last season and has no fantasy value.

Braves | Atlanta acquires Erick Aybar, pitchers

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 15:58:08 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar was acquired by the Atlanta Braves Thursday, Nov. 12, in exchange for SS Andrelton Simmons. The Braves also acquired P Sean Newcomb, P Chris Ellis and cash considerations.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar likely will be the starting shortstop for the Braves this season, while Newcomb likely will be part of the pitching staff in some role. Aybar could be a middle infield option in deeper leagues next season because of his consistent playing time. Newcomb could be an option in NL-only and keeper leagues.

Angels | Andrelton Simmons acquired by Angels

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 15:57:05 -0800

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons was acquired by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Thursday, Nov. 12, in exchange for SS Erick Aybar, P Sean Newcomb, P Chris Ellis and cash considerations.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons should be the Angels' everyday shortstop after the trade, but it probably will not affect his fantasy value for the 2016 season. Simmons could be a middle infield option in deeper mixed leagues next season but probably should not be a shortstop option.

Angels | Erick Aybar to stay in leadoff spot

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 10:03:19 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar hit leadoff for the fourth time in five games Monday, Sept. 21, and he will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Manager Mike Scioscia wants to use OF David Murphy to protect 1B Albert Pujols when the team faces right-handed pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: Hitting leadoff helps Aybar's ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) daily value at FantasyScore, but keep in mind he's hitting only .226 (36-for-159) with one home run when leading off this year. The Angels remain a light-hitting squad even with Aybar setting the table. He'll likely remain a midrange FantasyScore shortstop with minimal power.

Angels | C.J. Cron resting

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 15:10:17 -0700

Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Sept. 19, with SS Erick Aybar sliding up to hit leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) moves up shifting David Murphy ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) down to fifth. Aybar has a solid draw with Mike Pelfrey on the hill, but Aybar is hitting .175 this month and isn't a good FantasyScore start. Murphy has a .278-2-6 line this month, which really isn't much to move the needle on FantasyScore.

Angels | Erick Aybar leading off vs. Twins

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 14:18:09 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar is batting first against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Thursday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: While Aybar ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) receives a nice fantasy boost hitting atop the lineup, he still owns an underwhelming .557 OPS since the All-Star break. He is nothing more than a dice roll at FantasyScore and not worth a roster spot outside of AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Angels | Erick Aybar struggles against King Felix

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 10:15:40 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar is hitting .224 with five RBI and 17 strikeouts in 90 career plate appearances against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez, who he faces Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: It wouldn't make much sense to use Aybar ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) tonight on FantasyScore against Hernandez unless you're looking for a cheap contrarian play.

Angels | Erick Aybar sitting Saturday

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 15:05:45 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar (back) is out of the lineup again Saturday, Aug. 15, with 2B Johnny Giavotella hitting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Giavotella ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) faces ace Johnny Cueto tonight, so he might not be the best start on FantasyScore.

Angels | Erick Aybar out against the Royals

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 16:09:55 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar (back) is not in the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 14. SS Taylor Featherston is starting at shortstop and batting ninth against Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is a disabled list candidate, so make sure to keep an eye out for his injury status over the weekend. Typically, Duffy ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) is an arm to pick on in all fantasy formats, but you should likely aim higher than Featherston ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) Friday. After all, he owns a .124 batting average this season.

Angels | No timetable for Erick Aybar's return

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 10:04:38 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar (back) has no timetable for his return to the lineup, but manager Mike Scioscia said the team is "not concerned long range." Aybar is unsure if he'll have to go on the disabled list. SS Ryan Jackson would likely come up from Class AAA if Aybar goes on the DL.

Fantasy Tip: Make plans to be without Aybar for the foreseeable future if you own him. Taylor Featherston ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will likely fill in at the 6 in the meantime, but his fantasy value is very minimal in all formats.
