Fantasy Tip: Realmuto ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) probably is receiving a day off and should return in the next game or two. Mathis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting only .185 this season and should be avoided by owners on FantasyScore.

Marlins | No J.T. Realmuto against Yankees

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 13:45:14 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto (back) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 18. C Jeff Mathis is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Realmuto ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is dealing with back stiffness, but it isn't expected to result in a stint on the disabled list. Over his past nine games, he is 13-for-35 (.371 batting average) with four runs, a home run and six RBI. Realmuto should be viewed as a mid-range No. 2 backstop in two-catcher formats. For his career, Mathis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has a .195 batting average, and this season, he is down to .150 with a .390 OPS. FantasyScore players should look elsewhere Thursday.

Marlins | Jeff Mathis injured

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 14:12:41 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jeff Mathis suffered a finger fracture during the team's game Sunday, April 12, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Mathis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is viewed as cap relief in leagues like FantasyScore and other daily contests. If you're looking for relief, turn to a more reliable source like Roberto Perez at the same price. Perez will be starting for the next several weeks fpr the Cleveland Indians while Yan Gomes (knee) is on the DL.

Marlins | Jeff Mathis stating behind the plate

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 06:43:06 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jeff Mathis will start at catcher and bat eight against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, April 12.

Fantasy Tip: Mathis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation daily play. While he has a contest-minimum cap hit and favorable pitching matchup (Nathan Karns allowed six earned runs through 5 1/3 innings in his season debut), Mathis is batting eighth and brings a sub-.200 career batting average to the table. FantasyScore players should aim to find better sources of cap relief Sunday.

Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia bothered by back soreness

Sun, 03 Aug 2014 10:31:32 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (back) has been bothered by a sore back, leading to more playing time recently for C Jeff Mathis, according to manager Mike Redmond.

Fantasy Tip: This injury doesn't sound serious enough to require a DL stint for Salty. Mathis, a career .195 hitter, will not get enough playing time or produce enough offensively to be fantasy-relevant.
