Cleveland Indians SP Gavin Floyd will have his spring debut Sunday, March 8, pushed back due to "general soreness," according to manager Terry Francona. Floyd has had surgery on his right elbow twice in the last two years, including Tommy John surgery in 2013. The Indians are electing to be cautious with Floyd in camp. Floyd has impressed the team this spring, and the Indians said when they signed him that he'd be a part of the starting rotation to start the year if he was healthy. There will be no change in his throwing program.
Fantasy Tip: Floyd was pitching great for the Atlanta Braves last year before he fractured his elbow. He also showed attractive control and ground-ball rates while striking out 7.5 hitters per nine innings last year. That, along with the pitcher-friendly move to Cleveland, makes Floyd an interesting sleeper in really deep mixed leagues in 2015, assuming he's healthy.

Cleveland Indians SP Gavin Floyd (elbow) is having his innings monitored this spring after fracturing his right elbow in 2014. The Indians will be cautious with him in camp, and they'll delay his first Cactus League start. Floyd was initially scheduled to debut Sunday, March 8, but he'll be pushed back a few days. He might work in a simulated game on the minor league side before making his spring debut, according to manager Terry Francona.
Fantasy Tip: Floyd was looking good with the Atlanta Braves before his injury last year after returning from Tommy John surgery. The move to Cleveland should be attractive for fantasy owners as a buy-low deep sleeper candidate in deeper mixed leagues.

Cleveland Indians SP Gavin Floyd (elbow) has looked "really good" and the ball is coming out of his hand "really well," according to pitching coach Mickey Callaway. Manager Terry Francona said Floyd will be eased along with an extra side day, a B game or a simulated game during spring training, and they plan to keep an eye on Floyd.
Fantasy Tip: Floyd has missed significant time -- just 14 starts -- over the past two seasons, and when healthy, he was only a fringe fantasy contributor. However, he did flash a respectable line with the Braves last season sporting a 2.65 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and 45 strikeouts over 54.3 innings through nine starts. Still, Floyd is currently best left for AL-only formats, where he is a low-end starter. There is also the chance he doesn't earn a spot in the rotation, so check back for updates on his progress through spring training.
