The Washington Redskins, with the ninth pick in the NFL Draft, have selected CB Carlos Rogers (Auburn).

Kent Somers, of the Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Cardinals vice president of football operations Rod Graves said the team has targeted seven players they think will be available at the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL draft. Graves did not disclose the players' names, but the group likely includes CBs Carlos Rogers (Auburn), Adam Jones (West Virginia) and Antrel Rolle (Miami) along with RBs Carnell Williams (Auburn), Cedric Benson (Texas) and Ronnie Brown (Auburn). The seventh player could be Texas LB Derrick Johnson.

Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports the New York Jets, who shipped their first-round draft choice (No. 26 overall) to the Oakland Raiders in a packaged deal for TE Doug Jolley, could decide to jump back into the first round by packaging some draft picks this year or next to move up far enough to land Auburn CB Carlos Rogers. While Rogers is one prospect the Jets are believed to covet, they could just as easily move into the latter part of the opening round if a player they've targeted is slipping.

Jason La Canfora, of the Washington Post, reports the Washington Redskins have identified the cornerback position as an area of immediate need and could invest their No. 9 overall draft choice on the position. The club has already conducted pre-draft visits with the top prospects at cornerback including Adam Jones (West Virginia), Antrel Rolle (Miami) and Carlos Rogers (Auburn).

Vic Carucci, of NFL.com, reports there are at least a half-dozen cornerbacks that figure to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, and that there could very well be more first-rounders than any other position has to offer. Among the elite players at the position are University of Miami CB Antrel Rolle, CB Adam Jones of West Virginia, CB Brandon Browner of Oregon State, CB Carlos Rogers of Auburn, CB Corey Webster of LSU, CB Justin Miller of Clemson and CB Marlin Jackson of Michigan.
