Chargers | Ronnie Brown re-signs

Fri, 15 Mar 2013 14:35:46 -0700

The San Diego Chargers re-signed RB Ronnie Brown to an undisclosed one-year deal.

Fantasy Tip: Brown was surprisingly effective as a complement to Ryan Mathews last season, especially in the intermediate passing game. SD just signed Danny Woodhead, though, so Brown will find it tougher to gain touches in the offense. He's 31 years old, so he probably won't make much of a fantasy impact.

Chargers | Doubting Ryan Mathews

Tue, 08 Jan 2013 13:39:07 -0800

The San Diego Chargers are beginning to wonder if RB Ryan Mathews will ever become the type of player they thought he would become when they selected him 12th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft. The team would like him to become more polished and seize the full-time running back role. San Diego used RB Ronnie Brown in a receiving role this year in order to keep Mathews fresh; Brown ran a passing route on 60.4 percent of his offensive snaps, while Mathews ran routes 42.1 percent of the time. Mathews still believes he can be a game-changing back for the Chargers, however. "It's time for me to show them why they bumped up all the spots they did to draft me," Mathews, 25, said. "I've shown greatness at times, and I've shown I can be the worst player at times. You've got to be consistent, and that's what I plan to do, Just be a little more consistent player and just be the guy they knew when they drafted."

Chargers | Ronnie Brown might start in Week 1

Fri, 07 Sep 2012 18:12:18 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (clavicle) appears to be targeting a Week 2 return, so RB Ronnie Brown is likely to get the start in his team debut in Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders Monday, Sept. 10. RBs Jackie Battle and Curtis Brinkley are also in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: Brown might be a decent one-week RB3 or 'flex' fantasy play, especially if you were holding out hope for Mathews, but don't add Brown in place of a player with longer term value to your squad.

Chargers | Edwin Baker, Le'Ron McClain in mix for carries

Tue, 26 Jun 2012 19:11:25 -0700

Chargers | Working with Wildcat offense

Sat, 16 Jun 2012 22:43:10 -0700

The San Diego Chargers spent time during OTAs working on the Wild Cat offense. RBs Ryan Mathews and Ronnie Brown split reps, taking direct snaps out of the shotgun formation with QB Philip Rivers lined up out wide. Chargers head coach Norv Turner said it is good for the team's defense to practice against it and also allows the opportunity for the offense to use it themselves if the opportunity presents itself. "It's something that if we feel it gives an advantage, we're going to use it," Turner said, but made it clear the team will probably only use the formation two or three times a year to surprise a defense.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy inactive

Sun, 01 Jan 2012 08:52:55 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (ankle) is not active in Week 17 against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: That all but certainly makes Maurice Jones-Drew the NFL's rushing champion, as Adam Schefter also notes. Ronnie Brown and Dion Lewis will presumably split the work. Neither is a particularly attractive play given the uncertainty about how much each will touch the rock and the limitations of his abilities, but if you're desperate for a flex player, why not? Brown is the likelier candidate for goal-line touches.
