Vic Ketchman reports for Jaguars.com the Jacksonville Jaguars will look to QB David Garrard of East Carolina, their fourth-round draft pick, to quickly become their No. 2 QB behind Mark Brunell. "He's got to compete for the backup job," coach Tom Coughlin said. The Jaguars selected Garrard to replace Jonathan Quinn as Brunell's backup and Coughlin is hoping he'll progress quicker than Quinn did. Garrard will compete with QB Roderick Robinson.

The Associated Press reports the Indianapolis Colts have signed QB Mark Rypien to a one-year contract for the minimum salary plus incentives. "I think he really feels he has some unfinished business," agent Ken Staninger said. "He's looking forward to the challenge of being the No. 2 quarterback in Indianapolis." He joins a Colts roster that currently lists four quarterbacks Peyton Manning, Billy Joe Hobert, Roderick Robinson and Dave Meyer.

The Indianapolis Star/News reports the addition of QB Mark Hartsell on Friday now gives the Indianapolis Colts five quarterbacks on roster. He joins starter Peyton Manning, backups Billy Joe Hobert, Roderick Robinson and Dave Meyer. Hartsell is expected to compete for a backup job with the team.
