Jets | Braylon Edward's roster spot in jeopardy?

Fri, 23 Aug 2013 15:03:21 -0700

New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards' (leg) roster spot is now in jeopardy after the team signed WR Mohamed Massaquoi Thursday, Aug. 22. Edwards hasn't taken part in practice in the last four days due to a leg injury. Aside from WR Santonio Holmes (foot), who remains week to week, WRs Jeremy Kerley, Stephen Hill and Clyde Gates are locks at receiver. WR Ryan Spadola is looking more safe, and WR Ben Obomanu is in jeopardy. Head coach Rex Ryan sees similarities between Massaquoi and former Jets wideout Jerricho Cotchery.

Fantasy Tip: Edwards and Massaquoi can be ignored in fantasy circles. Kerley is probably the only Jets receiver worth owning, and that's in extremely deep leagues. The team's QB position is just too volatile.

Jets | Braylon Edwards feels he can still be elite

Tue, 13 Aug 2013 20:00:32 -0700

New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards said Tuesday, Aug. 13, that he feels he can still be an "elite" receiver in the National Football League. "I'm starting to get into camp shape, that groove, that vibe," Edwards said. "Now is the chance to really go after it and really show these guys I still have it and that I can play at an elite level to help this team win games."

Fantasy Tip: Edwards might have tremendous confidence in himself, but he hasn't been productive in three years, so fantasy owners will want to take a pass. Plus, even if he shows improvement, the quarterback situation in New York is murky at best.

Jets | Braylon Edwards praises Geno Smith

Fri, 26 Jul 2013 14:46:32 -0700

New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards has been extremely impressed with rookie QB Geno Smith in the first few days of training camp. "It's going to be a battle," Edwards said of the Jets' quarterback competition. "Mark can't make mistakes like he has in the past. Things have to be legit with Mark for him to be the starter because he has a legit guy knocking at the back door." Smith showed a big arm during practice Friday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: As if the Jets needed anything else to stir the pot in what should be a heated quarterback competition in training camp. Smith will still need to outperform Sanchez in camp, which might not be terribly tough to do, in order to win the starting job. We still feel Sanchez is the favorite, but if he struggles early in the season, don't be surprised if Rex Ryan has a quick trigger. It's not wise to own either of these QBs as a backup for fantasy purposes.

Jets | Braylon Edwards looking to start

Thu, 25 Jul 2013 17:06:27 -0700

New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards said he is looking to win a starting job during training camp. "My job is to go out there and do what they need me to do. Go out there and practice and play to start. That's why I came here, I didn't come as a role or I'm going to help, I came to start," Edwards said.

Jets | Braylon Edwards loses weight

Thu, 25 Jul 2013 14:40:18 -0700

New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards said he is down to 215 pounds, which is the lowest he's weighed since 2010.

Fantasy Tip: Edwards has plenty of familiarity with Mark Sanchez, and he could easily become the QB's top target with Santonio Holmes (foot) not a lock to be ready for the start of the season. Still, Edwards is near the end of his career and shouldn't be considered anything more than a WR5 or 6 in most leagues.

Jets | Braylon Edwards re-joins team

Wed, 24 Jul 2013 19:02:46 -0700

Updating a previous report, the New York Jets agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free-agent WR Braylon Edwards (Jets) Wednesday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Edwards is a shell of his former self, but he gives the team a veteran presence at a position they're not very deep. Plus, he knows the offense. As far as fantasy value, he is only worth a look in the deepest of formats.

Jets | Two FAs unlikely to return

Wed, 06 Feb 2013 21:48:39 -0800

The New York Jets are unlikely to bring back the same cast of wide receivers from last season, clearly the weakest position on the team in 2012. WRs Braylon Edwards and Chaz Schilens are impending free-agents and it is unlikely they return.

Sat, 15 Dec 2012 05:29:09 -0800

New York Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano is hoping WR Braylon Edwards' (hamstring) familiarity with QB Mark Sanchez can help Edwards get comfortable with the offense. "Obviously, these two guys have played together and they've been in contact with each other and they're friends, so there's a lot of history there with them," Sparano said. "I think that's a positive thing here and makes it a little bit easier going forward." Edwards will likely be listed as questionable for Week 15 with a hamstring injury.

Jets | Braylon Edwards claimed

Tue, 11 Dec 2012 13:53:36 -0800

The New York Jets claimed WR Braylon Edwards off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the fact that Edwards was one of Mark Sanchez's favorite targets the last time the two were teammates, don't expect the two to immediately reconnect. It would be a stretch to think Edwards can make an immediate fantasy impact this late in the game.
