The Washington Post reports Washington Nationals RP Travis Hughes was criticized by manager Frank Robinson for being too fast-paced on the pitcher's mound, as he believes that has resulted in Hughes' 7.50 ERA. "He gets in fast-forward mode. Everything is just quick, fast, fast, fast, fast, fast," Robinson said. "He just doesn't take a breath. Get the ball back and let's go again."

The Associated Press reports Atlanta Braves 3B Chipper Jones hit three consecutive home runs Aug. 14 against the Washington Nationals. It marked the first three-homer in game in Jones' career, and the first by any Braves player since Andruw Jones did it on Sept. 25, 2002, at Philadelphia. Chipper Jones hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning off Nationals SP Ramon Ortiz, a solo shot in the sixth off RP Ryan Wagner and a two-run shot into the upper deck in right in the eighth off RP Travis Hughes.

The Associated Press reports Atlanta Braves OF Matt Diaz tied a National League record Aug. 14 by hitting safely in a 10th consecutive at-bat. Diaz's single in the seventh inning off Washington Nationals RP Travis Hughes made him 4-for-4 in the game and allowed him to break the Braves' team record and equal the NL mark, shared by several players. The most recent to accomplish it was Cincinnati's Bip Roberts on Sept. 19-23, 1992.
