According to The North County Times, Japanese teams have shown little interest in San Diego Padres OF Emil Brown. That likely means Brown will start the season at Triple-A Portland, unless he asks for his release. Brown is hitting .195 with two homers and seven RBIs.

Corey Brock, of MLB.com, reports the San Diego Padres signed free-agent OF Emil Brown (Athletics) to a minor league deal Tuesday, Feb. 17. Brown said he is willing to begin the season at Class AAA, but a Japanese League team has been interested in him as well. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
