San Diego Chargers DL Tommie Harris will initially see time in the team's nickel defensive package. "He can go in and line up over a guard in our nickel package," head coach Norv Turner said. "That is exactly what he did his entire career in the third down package. He can be a very frequent pass rusher. We don't have to rush him into the 3-4."

Free-agent DL Tommie Harris (Bears) is not ruling out a return to the Chicago Bears, but said he will sign with another team "on his own terms," according to ESPNChicago.com. "I'm going to come back on my own terms," Harris, 27, said. "I'm not taking the first offer that's out there. I'm going to present myself as healthy as possible. I have not had that chance in the past, and I'm just going to come to the table when I'm ready."

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears DT Tommie Harris lost $1.5 million in the de-escalating roster bonus for 2012 that is in his four-year contract extension. The de-escalating bonus started at $8 million and now is down to $5 million. Harris' contract calls for him to reach the Pro bowl and be on the field for 74 percent of the defensive snaps. Harris was on the field for 56.8 percent of the team's defensive snaps in 2009.
