The Washington Times reports former Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs said Sunday, Oct. 25, he has no plans to return to the franchise as an adviser or general manager, contrary to various rumors and reports.

The NFL announced Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs has been nominated for the Motorola NFL Coach of the Year Award. Gibbs coached the Redskins to a 9-7 record and a Wild Card Round playoff game.

Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com, reports Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs said he will meet with owner Daniel Snyder to discuss if he will return to the team next season. "At year's end, Dan and I always sit and talk and go through things, and we're doing that. We will be doing that starting [Monday] evening and going forward. Of course, everyone's situation will be taking into context here, including mine and my future here," Gibbs said.

Joseph White, of The Associated Press, reports Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs has decided to change the policy he has used for a long time. Gibbs made all of the team activities and practices voluntary until the mandatory minicamp in June. Gibbs said he would try anything to get an improvement from the 5-11 record in 2006. Some of the players who took advantage of the time off include RB Clinton Portis, FS Sean Taylor, WR Santana Moss and WR Brandon Lloyd.

Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com, reports Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs is comfortable with the team's defensive line. Gibbs said the team did not feel any sense of urgency to add defensive lineman during the draft, and hopes better talent in the secondary will help improve the team's sack totals. "When you look at the overall structure of the defense, what we felt hurt us last year with the pass rush, a lot of it was the coverage. That was the problem for us. With the guys we added at corner [in free agency] and now what we added at safety, hopefully what we can do is play much tighter coverage and much better coverage. It's going to force [quarterbacks] to hold the ball," Gibbs said.

Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com, reports the Washington Redskins are hoping to improve in the red zone in 2007. Last season, the Redskins scored 21 touchdowns in 42 opportunities in the red zone - a 50 percent clip. "I'd sure like to see us have someone make some individual plays and get us in the end zone," head coach Joe Gibbs said. "When the field gets tightened up like that, it takes someone to make a big individual play. I'd say (the red zone) is one area where we haven't run the ball as well as we would have liked, too."
