Updating an ongoing story, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Juan Rodriguez is reporting the Major League Baseball Players Association filed a grievance against the Florida Marlins regarding their release of OF Brian Banks. The Marlins cut Banks on March 31, two days after am MRI revealed loose bodies in Banks' right knee. The collective bargaining agreement holds teams responsible for a player's full salary if he is unable to perform due to injury suffered "within the scope of his employment under the contract."

Updating a previous item, Clark Spencer of The Miami Herald reports the Major League Baseball Players Association will likely file a grievance on Florida Marlins OF Brian Banks (knee), saying the team released him without cause. "The union contacted me, and we understand it may file a grievance," Banks said. "I can say yes, they definitely will."

The Associated Press reports the Florida Marlins released OF Brian Banks (knee) who is waiting to have knee surgery. The Marlins gave Banks termination pay and offered him a minor league contract to remain with the club, rehabilitate in Jupiter, then play at Triple-A Albuquerque. Banks will weigh his options, but he expects to re-sign with the team. "I know that's part of the business. It's nothing personal," said Banks. "I've got a good relationship with the guys here, the front office and the coaches. I like them, they like me. It just comes down to a financial move. I'll just take it as it is and try to get back healthy."

Juan Rodriguez of The South Florida Sun-Sentinel is reporting Florida Marlins OF Brian Banks (knee) is to undergo arthroscopic surgery Friday due to bone fragments in his left knee and could miss from two weeks to three months, depending on the size of the fragments. Banks had hurt the knee going after a fly ball.
