Manager Ron Gardenhire wants to keep the third catcher in case there are any setbacks with Mauer. It will also allow him to use C Mike Redmond, who is hitting .302 this season, at the designated hitter spot.

Wed, 04 Apr 2007 08:31:04 -0700 Kelly Thesier, of Minnesota.Twins.MLB.com, reports Minnesota Twins 3B Jeff Cirillo (knee) underwent an MRI on his left knee Tuesday, April 3, which revealed an old meniscus tear. Cirillo was first bothered by the soreness Sunday, April 1, but it wasn't until the Twins Opening Day game Monday, April 2, that it began to really bother him. He was taken out in the sixth inning of that game and will likely be rested for a few more days. He was also given a cortisone shot to ease the pain. It is hoped he will return by the weekend. C Chris Heintz will replace him as the backup at the corner infield positions.
