The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Milwaukee Brewers RP Chris Mabeus had to be returned to Double-A Huntsville Monday, May 22. Baseball rules stipulate a player optioned to the minor-league system must stay in the minors for 10 days, and the Brewers brought Mabeus up before that 10-day period expired.

Mychael Urban, of Athletics.MLB.com, reports Oakland Athletics rookie RP Chris Mabeus is in the mix to land a spot in the team's bullpen. Mabeus is coming off a strong season split between Triple-A Sacramento and Double-A Midland. In 38 games with Sacramento, he went 7-2 with 4 saves and a 3.00 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and fanned 10.8 hitters for every nine innings pitched. He was even better with Midland, going 4-0 with a 1.99 ERA and 11 saves in 20 appearances. In 23 innings, he fanned 27 and walked just two.
