Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista is fine to play the outfield health wise, but the team is also comfortable playing him at first base, according to manager John Gibbons. "We may keep Bautista at first these three games, keep him off the turf. But he's good, though -- he's fine to play the outfield," Gibbons said. "Because he's running. He's running on the bases, so he's fine."

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (quadriceps) likely will be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained quadriceps and is expected to miss two to four weeks. The timetable could change based on evaluation over the next few days.
Fantasy Tip: Jose Bautista and Adam Lind may both see time at first base while Encarnacion is out. Darin Mastroianni, Nolan Reimold and Cole Gillespie could be options in the outfield if Bautista spends most of his time at first base. All three probably will be AL-only options at this point.

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (quadriceps) has been diagnosed with a strained quadriceps after he underwent an MRI Sunday, July 6, and there is no timetable with his return. OF Jose Bautista (hamstring) started at first base Sunday and could receive more starts there since it likely would be easier on his injured hamstring. 1B Adam Lind could serve as the designated hitter since he is dealing with a foot injury.
Fantasy Tip: If Bautista spends a majority of his time at first base while Encarnacion is out, Darin Mastroianni, Nolan Reimold and Cole Gillespie could all see time in the outfield. All three likely would be limited be AL-only leagues, but owners looking for speed could consider adding Mastroianni while owners wanting more power could consider Reimold.

The experiment with 1B Edwin Encarnacion playing left field appears to be over. The Blue Jays no longer need him to play that position, as OF Jose Bautista (hamstring) can return to playing in the field. "We won't need it," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Friday morning of Encarnacion. "Jose should be in the next couple of days. With the left-hander going today it might buy him a couple of more days. He should be fine after that I would think."
