Blue Jays | Jose Bautista in RF

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 08:18:25 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (shoulder) is in right field for Game 1 of a doubleheader Tuesday, June 2. It will be his first game in right field since a shoulder injury limited him to DH in May.

Fantasy Tip: It's a great sign for Joey Bats, who was slated to return yesterday before rain foiled the game. At $5,500 (11.0% of cap), he's a daily consideration on FantasyScore.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista returns to right field

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 13:05:41 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (shoulder) is starting in right field and batting third against the Washington Nationals Monday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: This will be Bautista's ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) first start in the outfield since Tuesday, April 21, as his throwing shoulder has been a hindrance defensively. He has improved at the dish since, though, and over the past 31 games, Bautista has 18 runs, three home runs, 20 RBI and a .916 OPS. While the homer total is a little low, the other counting stats and his .284 batting average are solid. Unlike past seasons, FantasyScore players cannot start Bautista with confidence nightly at his cap hit, and it isn't out of question to fade him outside of cherry-pick matchups.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista drives in five

Tue, 26 May 2015 21:38:01 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista went 3-for-4 with five RBI against the Chicago White Sox Tuesday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has been limited to being the designated hitter because of his shoulder injury, but he does not seem to be affected by the injury at the plate. Bautista is only hitting .231 this season but should be a starting option on FantasyScore for his power potential and ability to drive in runs.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista throws Tuesday

Tue, 26 May 2015 17:44:59 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (shoulder) make about 25 throws Tuesday, May 26, and did not feel any pain in his shoulder. He started off at 40 feet and then moved to 90 feet. Bautista also fielded fly balls in the outfield during batting practice. Bautista received a cortisone shot Sunday, May 24, and could play in the outfield next week if he does not have any problems.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) can serve as the designated hitter for now but could be able to play in the outfield starting Monday, June 1. Owners should monitor his progress but may be a solid starting option if he is able to play with the injury.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista nearing return to RF

Tue, 26 May 2015 14:38:15 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (shoulder) is hoping to be back in right field Monday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: A return to right field for Bautista should open up more playing time at first base for Justin Smoak ($2,200, 4.4% of cap), who has only started and played in four full games in May. Check to see if Smoak has been dropped in AL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista returns to lineup

Tue, 26 May 2015 13:54:43 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (shoulder) is returning to the starting lineup Tuesday, May 26, against Chicago White Sox SP John Danks.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is back after receiving a cortisone shot in his troublesome right shoulder, but he remains as the designated hitter. His .215 average (28-for-130) suggests his shoulder has limited his capabilities with the stick, although he does have seven home runs and 25 RBI. Against Danks tonight, Bautista may fly under the radar and be a great daily play. Danks allows a 9.25 OPS to righty sticks in 2015.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista not ready to play

Mon, 25 May 2015 13:42:29 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 25. 1B Edwin Encarnacion will serve as the designated hitter, while 1B Justin Smoak will start at first base.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known when Bautista ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) will be able to play again so owners should monitor the situation. Encarnacion ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) should be a nightly starting option on FantasyScore. Smoak ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is only hitting .217 this month and has recorded two RBI during that span. Owners on FantasyScore should avoid Smoak for the time being.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista receives cortisone shot

Sun, 24 May 2015 12:00:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays OF/DH Jose Bautista (shoulder) was not in the starting lineup against the Seattle Mariners Sunday, May 24, because he had received a cortisone shot in his right shoulder. He has been unable to throw for several weeks due to a shoulder strain, limiting him to duties as a designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is expected to be sidelined again Monday, May 25, because it usually takes 48 to 72 hours for a player who has received a cortisone shot to return to action. There is no timetable for when he will resume playing in the field, although the Jays begin an interleague series against the Washington Nationals Monday, June 1, where they won't be allowed to use a DH.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista gets day off

Sun, 24 May 2015 07:34:22 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista will have the day off Sunday, May 24, against the Seattle Mariners. 1B Edwin Encarnacion will serve as the designated hitter, with 1B Justin Smoak getting the start in the field.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is 2-for-3 in his last three appearances as a pinch-hitter. Smoak went 1-for-4 in his most recent start at first base, but his upside is limited with only one extra-base hit on the season.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista has big game Monday

Mon, 18 May 2015 15:46:27 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, a walk and his seventh home run of the season in a victor Monday, May 18. He raised his average to .235.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) has been slow out of the gates in 2015, and an ailing right shoulder may be partially to blame. However, his shoulder is getting healthier, and it may coincide with improved results with the stick. He hasn't been worth the price at FantasyScore lately, but if he starts to heat up, that could change quickly.
