Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (leg) has been shut down for the rest of the 2013 season because of a bone bruise on his femur. The team hopes Bautista will be ready for spring training next season.
Fantasy Tip: Owners in non-keeper leagues can drop Bautista. Anthony Gose and Moises Sierra probably will see more playing time with Bautista sidelined and could be targets in AL-only leagues if they are available.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed OF Jose Bautista (hip) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 20, due to a bruised hip bone. He was pulled from the first game of a doubleheader against the New York Yankees. "He felt it a couple of days ago. He didn't think it was that big of a deal, so he was able to play," manager John Gibbons said. "Standing around in the outfield, all those pitches aggravated it, so he went to get checked out."
Fantasy Tip: With Bautista on the shelf, youngsters Anthony Gose and Kevin Pillar are expected to get a good look from the club. Gose is worth a look in AL-only play. It's uncertain how much time Bautista will be forced to miss at this point, and it's an unfortunate situation for fantasy owners in weekly leagues, since it is only Tuesday and he will be out the rest of the scoring period.

Teams that have spoken to the Texas Rangers are convinced that they think the Rangers expect OF Nelson Cruz to be suspended soon for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal because Texas has been the most aggressive in looking for an outfield bat to trade for. "They have to have had that conversation," a high-ranking executive of one rival club said of Cruz and the Rangers. "If you're his GM, you have to go to him and say, 'What are your plans if you get suspended?' You're not doing your job if you don't have that conversation. And depending on the answer, I'm sure that conversation will lead to another one." The Rangers have asked about Chicago White Sox OF Alex Rios, San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence, Seattle Mariners 1B Kendrys Morales, Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista, Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp, San Diego Padres OF Carlos Quentin and Atlanta Braves C Brian McCann.
Fantasy Tip: If you own Cruz, you should be doing something similar to what the Rangers are doing: build depth behind Cruz just in case he is suspended and doesn't appeal the process. Cruz can be had on the cheap right now if you're willing to take the chance that he misses the rest of the season.

Chicago White Sox OF Alex Rios appears to be the No. 1 target on the Texas Rangers' wish list but talks between the two sides are reportedly "not close." The Rangers are expected to wait and see if other big-name hitters become available via trade, such as Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer, Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton, San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence or Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista. Texas has also shown interest in Miami Marlins OF Justin Ruggiano, New York Mets OF Marlon Byrd and San Diego Padres OF Chris Denorfia.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout will bat leadoff for the American League in the 2013 All-Star Game. He will be followed by New York Yankees 2B Robinson Cano, Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera, Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis, Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista, Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz, Orioles OF Adam Jones, Minnesota Twins C Joe Mauer and Orioles SS J.J. Hardy.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons indicated 3B Brett Lawrie (ankle) could play second base once he comes off the 15-day disabled list. Gibbons did not rule out OF Jose Bautista playing third base and said 1B Edwin Encarnacion could start at third base occasionally but not often. 3B Mark DeRosa and SS Maicer Izturis could see a majority of the time at third base if Lawrie is moved.
Fantasy Tip: Lawrie has been working at second base during his rehab, so it appears the team is serious about the possibility of moving Lawrie to second base. Lawrie probably would get more fantasy value if he is able to pick up second base eligibility. Even though DeRosa and Izturis would see playing time, their fantasy values would be hurt since they would be in a timeshare.
