The Philadelphia Phillies named roving hitting instructor Steve Henderson as the new hitting coach and also named Triple-A Lehigh Valley pitching coach Rod Nichols as the new bullpen coach. The Phillies will go without a bench coach next year. Mick Billmeyer was promoted to catching coach. Juan Samuel was offered the first base job but has yet to accept.

The Philadelphia Phillies announced all of manager Charlie Manuel's coaches will return for the 2012 season. Rich Dubee (pitching), Greg Gross (hitting), Pete Mackanin (bench), Sam Perlozzo (first base), Juan Samuel (third base), Mick Billmeyer (bullpen), and bullpen catcher Jesus Tiamo will keep their respective positions.

Toronto Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston supports the idea of the team hiring Colorado Rockies hitting coach Don Baylor as his successor next season, according to The Associated Press. "He does bring a present when he walks in a room. Not a birthday present, but a presence," Gaston quipped before the Blue Jays began the final series of the season against the Twins. "I think it'd be good for him. Whether he gets it or not, I'm happy to hear they're going to consider him and take a look at him." Gaston also recommended Juan Samuel for an interview. Samuel served as the Baltimore Orioles' interim manager earlier this year.
