New York Mets 3B David Wright has a stipulation in his contract that allows him to become a free agent after the 2012 season if he's traded in 2012. A collective bargaining agreement expert said that the team that acquires Wright can't receive draft-pick compensation if he leaves as a free agent after the 2012 season.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim general manager Jerry Dipoto is expected to be busy in the free-agent market this winter. He is targeting free-agent SP C.J. Wilson (Rangers) and RP Ryan Madson (Phillies). The Angels could also try to trade for New York Mets 3B David Wright if the Mets are serious about moving him.

The New York Mets may consider moving 3B David Wright next summer in a trade but are not expected to do so this winter, unless another team makes an extremely generous offer. One of the reasons why the Mets want to wait is because the outfield walls at Citi Field will be moved in during the offseason and the new hitter-friendly dimensions are expected to boost Wright's power numbers and his potential trade value.

Rockies | Could have platoon at 3B

The Colorado Rockies could have a platoon situation at third base next year between 3B Ian Stewart, C Jordan Pacheco and 2B Chris Nelson. Stewart would face right-handed pitching while Pacheco and Nelson would be available against lefties. 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff is unlikely to return. The team is also expected to make a run at New York Mets 3B David Wright if the Mets make him available for trade. Boston Red Sox 3B Kevin Youkilis, San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley and Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez are other trade possibilities.
