Blue Jays | TOR wants to keep Edwin Encarnacion

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 18:10:30 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays are expected to restart contract extension talks with 1B Edwin Encarnacion around the All-Star break. However, it appears likely that he will test free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Toronto had previously offered Encarnacion a guaranteed two-year contract with vesting options but he is hoping to land a four- or five-year deal as a free agent. Entering play Wednesday, Encarnacion was batting .282 with three home runs and 15 RBI through his first 85 at-bats this season. He should be viewed as a viable option in all fantasy formats, although his bat has cooled off somewhat in the past week.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak out Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 12:39:23 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26, against the Chicago White Sox. 1B Edwin Encarnacion is batting fourth against White Sox SP Chris Sale.

Fantasy Tip: Although Smoak is batting .313 in the last week, he has a .143 average against Sale and the same average in games played at Rogers Centre. Smoak is doing fairly well as of late and deserves fantasy consideration. Encarnacion should be handled with kid gloves for the moment (.226 average, five RBIs in the last week).

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion adds to RBI total

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 20:15:49 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs Monday, April 25, against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Encarnacion has driven in 14 games so far in the month of April. He had just 10 RBIs in April 2015, and he ended up driving in 111 runs, so he is ahead of last season's career-high pace.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak out of the lineup

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:13:04 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Monday, April 25. 2B Darwin Barney will start at third base and is batting eighth in the lineup. 1B Edwin Encarnacion will be the first baseman, while 3B Josh Donaldson will serve as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Barney has gone 4-for-7 with one home run and three RBI over the last two games and could be used in some daily fantasy leagues because of his recently play.

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista is hitting third as the designated hitter Monday, April 18. The move shifts 1B Edwin Encarnacion from DH to first base, and 1B Chris Colabello is on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Joey Bats and Encarnacion are daily DFS considerations against Clay Buchholz.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion launches a pair

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 19:25:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion hit his first two home runs of the season, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in a 5-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox Friday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: After failing to log an extra-base hit through the first eight games, Encarnacion has a double and two home runs in his last two games. With his power coming around, it could be time to buy into Encarnacion in DFS formats.

Blue Jays | Josh Donaldson back in the field

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 13:17:17 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson (calf) is starting at third base again against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Tuesday, April 12. That allows 1B Chris Colabello to start again, and he's hitting sixth in the batting order with 1B Edwin Encarnacion back in the designated hitter role.

Fantasy Tip: Donaldson's calf scare hasn't hindered him, and he continues to swing a hot bat to begin the year. He should be started in all fantasy formats. Some folks may have forgotten about Colabello, so he could be a low-priced sneaky daily pick Tuesday.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion to play again Friday

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 15:48:53 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (oblique) is expected to play in another minor league game Friday, April 1, in what will be his final game before the regular season. Encarnacion says he feels 100% after making a lot of hard contact in a minor league game Thursday, March 31.

Fantasy Tip: Because of Encarnacion's age, all of his mounting nagging injuries have to concern you somewhat. But he's been able to shake them off throughout the years and still shows elite power skills as a top-tier fantasy first baseman.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion says he's ready

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 10:49:30 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (oblique) declared himself 100% ready Thursday, March 31, after six minor league at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: He's expected to see some at-bats in major league games the final couple of days of camp. He hasn't seen a lot of pitches this spring, and that could affect him early. However, you can't deny his power, which makes him an elite first baseman in fantasy.

Blue Jays | No more talks with Edwin Encarnacion

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 22:37:49 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays and 1B Edwin Encarnacion are unlikely to have any further contract extension talks with just four days remaining in spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Encarnacion gave the team an opening day deadline for talks to be completed. He is expected to be an unrestricted free agent in 2017, and at age 33 he could have a strong season now that he is playing for a payday. That's great news for his seasonal fantasy owners in 2016.
