Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) went 1-for-5 as the designated hitter in his first rehab start Thursday, May 16.
Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez likely lost his opportunity to take advantage of consistent playing time earlier this year when Michael Saunders was sidelined with an injury. When he returns, he'll come back to a crowded outfield. He should see occasional at-bats, but expect Eric Wedge to be conservative to keep the oft-injured fly-catcher healthy. This is mainly an AL-only commodity.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez just cannot stay healthy. He has the tools to be a useful fantasy player, but he just can't stay on the field to put it together.

Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) will undergo an MRI exam Thursday, April 25.
Fantasy Tip: It's safe to cut Gutierrez in all mixed leagues at this point. He's known as an incredibly slow healer, too, so depending on the results of his MRI exam, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him take a while to make his way back.

The Seattle Mariners placed OF Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, April 23, and recalled OF Carlos Peguero from the minors in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: With Michael Saunders (shoulder) expected to return from the DL later this week, Peguero will likely be used as outfield depth. He has some very intriguing power, but without consistent playing time, he's solely AL-only material.

Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) left the game early with tightness in his right hamstring Monday, April 22, and manager Eric Wedge said Gutierrez may go on the disabled list. The team hopes to learn more about his injury Tuesday, April 23.
Fantasy Tip: Expect Gutierrez to land on the DL when Michael Saunders (shoulder) is activated later this week. Endy Chavez should continue playing center field in the meantime. He should be owned in AL-only leagues.

Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (pelvis) said his current injury problems have originated in his pelvic area, and it has impacted other parts of his legs. "I have some issues with my pelvis, so I'm trying to fix it," he said. "Some days it's my groin. Some days it's my hamstring. It's different, but I'm working on it." Gutierrez has been having the problems since spring training.
Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez just can't seem to stay healthy for the life of him. Because he isn't playing on a consistent basis, he's a risky option in mixed formats, and there's a possibility the team places him on the DL when Michael Saunders (shoulder) returns this week. Endy Chavez should retain value as long as Gutierrez is injured.
