Fantasy Tip: Ackley is not injured but has hit safely in his last 16 games for Triple-A Tacoma entering play Sunday, June 16. Don't be surprised if the Mariners decide to recall him.
Wed, 12 Jun 2013 15:08:37 -0700 Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) is beginning a rehab assignment on Wednesday, June 12, with Triple-A Tacoma. The Rainiers are visiting Triple-A Las Vegas. This is Gutierrez's second rehab assignment for his strained hamstring. Fantasy Tip: Guti wasn't ready to rejoin the M's when his first rehab assignment neared its end, so he was pulled from it. It's assumed that he'll resume playing in center field on a semi-regular basis once he returns, assuming he can avoid further injury, which is no easy task for him.
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 11:30:13 -0700 Seattle Mariners C Brandon Bantz has been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma. C Jesus Sucre (hand) has his hand in a soft cast; he's expected to miss a few days. To make room for Bantz, the Mariners optioned INF Carlos Triunfel to Tacoma and transferred OF Franklin Gutierrez to the 60-day disabled list. Fantasy Tip: The M's were highly unlikely to summon Mike Zunino for such a trivial need. Bantz isn't worth a look in deep AL leagues unless Sucre's injury is more serious, and even then, it's not especially likely. Guti is already a month and a half into his DL stint, and his rehab assignment time has expired, but he isn't ready to return, so perhaps the M's found a way around that issue.

Any new rehab assignment for Gutierrez can't start for at least another five days. Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez is an injury mess, and he can't be relied on in any fantasy baseball format. The Mariners have plenty of other outfield options, too, so don't expect him to make much of an impact when he finally proves he's healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez likely lost his opportunity to take advantage of consistent playing time earlier this year when Michael Saunders was sidelined with an injury. When he returns, he'll come back to a crowded outfield. He should see occasional at-bats, but expect Eric Wedge to be conservative to keep the oft-injured fly-catcher healthy. This is mainly an AL-only commodity.
