The Tampa Bay Rays non-tendered RP J.P. Howell, RP Lance Cormier, 1B Willy Aybar and C Dioner Navarro Thursday, Dec. 2, making them free agents, according to The Tampa Tribune's Roger Mooney. The team is optimistic that they will re-sign Howell.

Tampa Bay Rays RP Lance Cormier, 1B Willy Aybar and 1B Dan Johnson are all candidates to be non-tendered by the team by Thursday, Dec. 2, which would make them free agents, according to MLB.com's Bailey Stephens.

The Tampa Bay Rays declined their options for the 2011 season on RP Dan Wheeler and 1B Willy Aybar Wednesday, Nov. 3, according to The Tampa Tribune's Roger Mooney. Wheeler's option was worth $4 million, and he will instead receive a $1 million buyout. Aybar's option was worth $2.2 million and will instead receive a $275,000 buyout.

Tampa Bay Rays C Kelly Shoppach is starting in Game 5 of the Division Series Tuesday, Oct. 12, over C John Jaso, according to The Tampa Tribune's Roger Mooney. 1B Dan Johnson is starting over 1B Willy Aybar as the designated hitter.

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Willy Aybar has been activated onto the postseason roster and will serve as the designated hitter in Game 2 of the Division Series Thursday, Oct. 7, according to MLB.com's Bill Chastain. OF Rocco Baldelli (leg) has been taken off the roster with left leg fatigue, which is symptomatic of mitochondrial disorder. Aybar is hitting sixth in the lineup Thursday.

Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon is planning to rest some of his regulars as the team wraps up its West Coast road trip, according to The Associated Press. DH Willy Aybar is scheduled to get a day off Saturday, May 8, with DH Pat Burrell playing in his place. Early next week, 1B Carlos Pena will get a break during one of the team's games against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
