Los Angeles Dodgers minor league SP Orlando Rodriguez was involved in a traffic accident Thursday, Mar. 23, in which a 51-year-old man from North Palm Beach, Fla. was killed, according to the Associated Press. Law enforcement officials said an investigation is ongoing, but Rodriguez has not been charged in the accident. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which was caused when Rodriguez's 2001 Ford pickup truck, heading southbound, spun out of control due to wet road conditions along Interstate 95. He entered a grass median separating the six-lane highway before ending up in a northbound lane, where the truck collided with Bruce Hermesch's 1994 Toyota, causing the car to flip. Hermesch was declared dead at the scene by the Florida Highway Patrol, and Rodriguez was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries, but was later released. Team spokesman Josh Rawitch said Rodriguez was on his way to Miami in order to catch a flight to Arizona, to be at home with his wife, who was in labor.
