Toronto Blue Jays SP Dustin McGowan will be moved to the bullpen. SPs Marcus Stroman or Todd Redmond will take McGowan's spot in the starting rotation, according to manager John Gibbons.
Fantasy Tip: Stroman has tremendous upside in the rotation and should be scooped up in all leagues, if he isn't owned already.

Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos singled out SP Dustin McGowan and 2B Ryan Goins as two of the team's weak spots during an ESPN podcast Thursday, April 24. McGowan has a 6.88 ERA and a 1.824 WHIP in four starts this season, and he admitted that he's becoming fatigued when he reaches the 60 to 65 pitch range. SPs J.A. Happ and Marcus Stroman are candidates to take McGowan's spot in the rotation if they choose to go that route. Goins has improved the club's overall defense with his leather at the keystone, but his bat isn't endearing him to the GM.
Fantasy Tip: McGowan and Goins are purely AL-only fantasy commodities. Toronto may prefer to give Happ a shot at a rotation spot because of his experience, but Stroman is the better speculative pickup in AL leagues

Toronto Blue Jays SP Dustin McGowan will make his next start, according to manager John Gibbons.
Fantasy Tip: McGowan's rough start makes him a candidate to be bumped from the rotation. Look for better options in mixed leagues. The Jays could go with a six-man rotation eventually if McGowan doesn't turn things around.

Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey will make his next start against the Houston Astros Thursday, April 10, allowing the team to push SP Dustin McGowan back a day to split him and SP Brandon Morrow in the rotation. Morrow will start against the Astros Wednesday, April 9, while McGowan will start the opener against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 11.

Toronto Blue Jays SP Dustin McGowan said he's completely healthy and on track to make his first start of the season against the New York Yankees Friday, April 4. McGowan tossed 77 pitches in five innings against minor leaguers Sunday, March 30, and he expects to go 90 to 95 pitches Friday. His fastball stayed in the mid-90s this spring. Manager John Gibbons doesn't seem inclined to hold McGowan to an inning's limit this year.

Toronto Blue Jays SPs Drew Hutchison and Dustin McGowan won the final two spots in the team's starting rotation to begin the year. McGowan will start the home opener against the New York Yankees April 4. McGowan has pitched in only 30 major league games, with 25 relief outings last season, since he had right shoulder surgery in 2008. Ps Todd Redmond, Esmil Rogers and Jeremy Jeffress will work out of the bullpen.
Fantasy Tip: Hutchison is an up-and-coming pitching prospect that's worth a gamble late in deep mixed leagues. Due to McGowan's injury history, he's not worth the headache, and he might wind up being best served pitching out of the bullpen because of his limited innings since 2008.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons indicated SP Dustin McGowan could be used as a multi-inning reliever if he does not win a spot in the starting rotation.

Toronto Blue Jays SPs Marcus Stroman and Drew Hutchison could both wind up winning rotation spots since SPs J.A. Happ, Kyle Drabek and Dustin McGowan have struggled so far this spring. "If I was picking the five guys, Hutchison would be in there for sure. Hutchison throws the ball wherever he wants, has a good release point and was 92 to 94 mph. It's way too early to even be answering those questions, but I like Hutchison," 1B Edwin Encarnacion said. Happ said he needs to be more aggressive. McGowan was hitting the high-90s on the radar gun, and despite his numbers, says he feels healthy.

Toronto Blue Jays SPs Esmil Rogers, Todd Redmond, Drew Hutchison, Kyle Drabek, Marcus Stroman, Sean Nolin, Dustin McGowan and Ricky Romero are all competing for the fifth rotation spot this spring, but manager John Gibbons said the team won't have a clear picture on who the favorites are until spring games begin.
