Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports that Chicago Bears linebackers coach Hardy Nickerson has resigned. Nickerson joined the Bears in February with no previous coaching experience, having played for part of his career in Tampa Bay under Lovie Smith. Smith said last week he hoped all of his coaches would return for 2008, a year after replacing five assistants following the Super Bowl XLI loss to Indianapolis.

Updating a previous report, the Associated Press reports the Chicago Bears have hired Hardy Nickerson as their new linebackers coach. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. "Hardy is a guy I've known for a number of years, and I always wanted him on our staff here," head coach Lovie Smith said.

Brad Biggs and Mike Mulligan, of the Chicago Sun-Times, report the Chicago Bears interviewed former NFL LB Hardy Nickerson Wednesday, Feb. 21. It is believed the meeting was to discuss Nickerson becoming the team's new linebackers coach, a role vacated after the promotion of Bob Babich to defensive coordinator. Nickerson, who does not have any previous coaching experience, is close friends with Smith from their time together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Former NFL LB Hardy Nickerson (Steelers, Buccaneers, Jaguars, Packers) is one of 36 NFL players who will be attending an executive education program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, from April 6-8. The program is part of an ongoing NFL-NFLPA initiative to assist players in preparing for their post-playing careers.

The News-Chronicle reports new Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Mark Duffner said he will have a better idea of what deficiencies require attention in the next couple weeks at the team's linebacking position. He dispensed glowing words of strong-side LB Na’il Diggs, but he had yet to see enough of MLB Hardy Nickerson and weak-side linebacker Nate Wayne to judge their play from last season. He said it’s premature to say whether or not Nickerson will be re-signed. "I really don’t know," Duffner said of Nickerson’s status. "All I do know is the guy has had a phenomenal professional career, and it would be a privilege to work with him."
