Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila has had his playing time reduced by the team due to his sub par performance this season. Gbaja-Biamila has played 68.2% of the downs in the last four games compared with 90.7% in the first three. "I'm not playing like I want to," Gbaja-Biamila said. "I don't know if things are away from me or what it is. I know statistics don't tell everything but I like sacks. To have 1 1/2 sacks, I'm not (excited) about it." The team has increased the playing time of rookie DL Corey Williams, DL Larry Smith and Aaron Kampman in his place.

Dave Lawrence, of Packers.com, reports the Green Bay Packers re-signing of DT Larry Smith could allow DT Cletidus Hunt to switch over to his natural three-technique role with Smith taking some reps at nose tackle. Hunt has been playing nose tackle for the past two games due to knee injuries sidelining DTs Grady Jackson (knee) and James Lee (knee). "One of Larry's great assets is his versatility," said defensive coordinator Bob Slowik. "The greatest thing is having Larry back and having another defensive lineman in the mix. He gives us options to make those moves."

"I don't know what to say," Del Rio said. " He's not in the best shape. It will all factor into a final decision. You're obviously not endearing yourself to the staff. We obviously haven't given up on him because he's still here."

Jacksonville Jaguars DT Larry Smith (heat illness) collapsed because of heat illness during morning practice Sunday, July 27. He was transported to Baptist Medical Center as a precautionary measure. He'll be kept overnight for observation and won't practice Monday, July 28. He should be ready to return to training camp within a couple of days.

Vito Stellino reports for the Florida Times-Union the Jacksonville Jaguars are currently looking at Marcus Stroud and Larry Smith as their starting defensive tackles for the 2002 season. The primary backup is Tim Morabito. The Jaguars are high on Stroud, Smith and Morabito, but questions about them explain why a defensive tackle will be a priority in the draft. There are four blue-chip defensive tackles in the draft likely to go in the top half of the first round, but the Jaguars hope to land one of them. New defensive coordinator John Pease likes the potential of Stroud and Smith despite their inexperience. Smith concedes this is a critical year for him as he enters his fourth season.

Jay Glazer reports for SportsLine.com that the Jacksonville Jaguars have suspended DT Larry Smith for one week's game after he sucker-punched C Jeff Smith on Wednesday. The brawl, which occured in the locker room, reportedly left Smith bleeding profusely and required several stitches to close the gash. It isn't clear if the wound will have any effect on his status for this weekend's game.
