The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent P Roman Colon (Dodgers) to a minor-league deal Wednesday, Jan. 25, and he received an invitation to spring training.

Bob Dutton, of The Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Royals RP Roman Colon could become the team's setup man this year. He began experimenting with a new grip on his slider in the winter, which has made his slider nasty. Colon has retired 15 of 16 hitters in five innings over four spring appearances, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out five and walking none.

The Associated Press reports the Kansas City Royals signed RP Roman Colon to a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration. It is a split deal, meaning it would pay him $665,000 if he is in the majors and $240,000 if he is in the minors.

The Sports Network reports Kansas City Royals 2B Willie Bloomquist (knees) and RP Roman Colon (knee) both underwent successful surgeries Friday, Oct. 16. Bloomquist underwent routine arthroscopic procedures on both of his knees and Colon had an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee. Both players are expected to be ready for Spring Training.
