Reds | Alfredo Simon struggling

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 10:04:52 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Alfredo Simon is 0-5 with a 5.46 ERA in six starts since the All-Star break. Simon starts Tuesday, Aug. 19, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Simon has been even worse in August, with a 7.20 ERA for the month. He has pitched 148 innings already this season, which is more than his combined total over the past two years. Fatigue is likely setting in. Fantasy owners should bench Simon until he shows signs of his early-season form.

Reds | Homer Bailey's start pushed back

Tue, 12 Aug 2014 13:06:23 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (elbow) will not pitch Wednesday, Aug. 13, because of elbow stiffness. Instead Bailey will pitch Saturday, Aug. 16, against the Colorado Rockies. Manager Bryan Price noted it was a precautionary move, and that the injury is not considered serious. SP Mike Leake will pitch Wednesday, followed by Johnny Cueto and Alfredo Simon.

Fantasy Tip: Strategically sitting Bailey Saturday, at hitter-friendly Coors Field, isn't out of the question.

Reds | Johnny Cueto named OD starter

Thu, 27 Mar 2014 10:05:24 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto has been named as the team's opening day starter, and he'll face the St. Louis Cardinals Monday, March 31. He'll be followed in the rotation by SPs Tony Cingrani, Homer Bailey, Mike Leake and Alfredo Simon. Cueto pitched deep into his outing on the minor league side Tuesday, March 25, after being scratched from his previous outing with shoulder and back soreness.

Reds | Alfredo Simon to try starting

Tue, 25 Feb 2014 13:33:05 -0800

Cincinnati Reds RP Alfredo Simon will have a shot to compete for a starting rotation position this spring with SP Mat Latos (knee) being slowed by an injury. Simon made 16 starts for the Baltimore Orioles in 2011. "We do know we are short one starter right now without Mat," manager Bryan Price said. "If we were to have any setbacks where Mat was not ready to start the season, we have to look at the group we have and that would include Simon."

Fantasy Tip: Simon will purely serve as rotation insurance until Latos is healthy enough to return to the rotation. As a result, Simon will likely have very little to no fantasy significance.
