Cincinnati Reds RP Alfredo Simon, who was claimed off waivers Wednesday, April 4, will be in the bullpen and pitch in middle relief. RP Bill Bray won't be in a setup role to start the season because manager Dusty Baker doesn't think Bray is sharp enough yet. "He's had enough to pitch, but not enough to pitch in the role we are accustomed to seeing him or with the regularity we're accustomed to seeing," Baker said. "He's still in spring training (mode)."

The Cincinnati Reds claimed SP Alfredo Simon off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, April 3. The Reds need added help in the bullpen with RP Ryan Madson (elbow) out for the season.

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Orioles SP Alfredo Simon expects to be claimed off waivers by another major league team. He will opt for free agency if he goes unclaimed.

The Baltimore Orioles placed SP Alfredo Simon on waivers Friday, March 30, but it's unclear if he has been designated for assignment or outright waived. As of now, Simon is still on the 40-man roster.

Baltimore Orioles SPs Alfredo Simon (groin) and Dana Eveland are long shots to earn a spot in the starting rotation out of spring training. Simon gave up six runs and six hits while walking one in two innings Wednesday, March 28, while Eveland gave up three runs and six hits in four innings. Simon feels fine physically.

Baltimore Orioles SP Alfredo Simon (groin) will make a Grapefruit League start against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, March 28, and he'll throw only a couple innings. OF Jai Miller (knee) is expected to play Wednesday, too, and OF Endy Chavez (groin) could return Thursday, March 29.

Baltimore Orioles OF Endy Chavez (groin) isn't playing Friday, March 23, due to a sore groin. RP Alfredo Simon (groin) opted out of his bullpen session Friday in order to rest some more. OF Jai Miller (knee) is out Friday with a sore knee.

Baltimore Orioles SP Alfredo Simon (groin) said Sunday, March 18, that he aggravated his strained groin in the second inning of his Grapefruit League appearance. He is hopeful he'll be able to make his next scheduled start. He has been limited to just six innings so far this spring.

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter said SP Alfredo Simon is still in the running for a starting rotation spot. He would like to see him pitch five or six innings in the exhibition game against the New York Yankees Sunday, March 18.
