Vito Stellino reports for the Florida Times-Union the Jacksonville Jaguars are currently looking at Marcus Stroud and Larry Smith as their starting defensive tackles for the 2002 season. The primary backup is Tim Morabito. The Jaguars are high on Stroud, Smith and Morabito, but questions about them explain why a defensive tackle will be a priority in the draft. There are four blue-chip defensive tackles in the draft likely to go in the top half of the first round, but the Jaguars hope to land one of them. New defensive coordinator John Pease likes the potential of Stroud and Smith despite their inexperience. Smith concedes this is a critical year for him as he enters his fourth season.

He signed a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum of $477,000, with incentives that could increase the salary to $625,000. Martin will be a backup to seventh-round draft choice James Reed, currently the team's starter.
