Phillies | Ryan Howard out Saturday

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 14:21:34 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is out of the lineup Saturday, July 4, against a left-hander. SS Andres Blanco is hitting second in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) .265-2-9 isn't in there for his offense, and he shouldn't be used on FantasyScore.

Phillies | Ryan Howard sitting out

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 08:59:29 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Saturday, June 27. 3B Maikel Franco will start at first base and is batting third, while SS Andres Blanco will start at third base and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) likely is sitting out because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Franco ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has recorded 13 hits and 11 RBI in his last seven games and should be a starting option on FantasyScore. Blanco ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has six RBI in his last three games and is hitting .292 in limited playing time in June, but owners may be able to find better options.

Phillies | Jeff Francoeur, Andres Blanco starting

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 12:47:13 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Jeff Francoeur and SS Andres Blanco are starting against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Tuesday, June 23. Francoeur is playing left field and hitting fifth, while Blanco is starting at third base and hitting seventh. 3B Maikel Franco moves over to first base, while 1B Ryan Howard serves as the designated hitter. OF Cody Asche will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Blanco ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) are desperation sleeper plays on FantasyScore. Francoeur is 4-for-20 (.200) in his career against Sabathia. Franco ($4,900, 9.8% of cap), who hit two home runs last night, continues to be an attractive daily commodity at his price, especially while facing a lefty that has struggled against righty sticks this year.

Phillies | Ryan Howard will be DH

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 13:18:20 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard will serve as the designated hitter against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Tuesday, June 16.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has struggled this month with a .186 batting average and only three RBI. Owners on FantasyScore may want to look for other options to use for their lineups.

Phillies | Ryan Howard back in lineup

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 12:41:21 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is back in the lineup Saturday, June 13, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has played OK this month, but only has one homerun in his last 15 games played. He doesn't have a good matchup today, either, against Gerrit Cole, who leads the league with a 1.73 earned run average. There are better options at first base on FantasyScore.

Phillies | Ryan Howard resting up

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 13:31:28 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed SP Jeff Locke Friday, June 12. OF Darin Ruf is starting at first base and hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has tore up lefty pitchers this year to the tune of a .387/.429/.645 slash line with a 1.074 OPS and two of his three home runs. Even though lefty hitters have done more damage against Locke this year, oddly enough, Ruf profiles as an attractive deep sleeper tonight while hitting cleanup.

Phillies | Ryan Howard not starting Saturday

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 10:53:50 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is not in the starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants Saturday, June 6. 1B/OF Darin Ruf will play first base and bat cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is sitting out because the team is facing left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner, whom he has experienced little success against in his career. He should return to action Sunday, June 7, but remove him from all fantasy lineups this afternoon. Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is only hitting .222 through his first 90 at-bats this season and should be avoided in FantasyScore.

Cardinals | STL interested in Ryan Howard

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 07:45:42 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is drawing interest from his hometown St. Louis Cardinals, FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi said on MLB Central. Howard is owed approximately $51.7 million through next season. One theory that could be discussed is the Cardinals would take on most of that salary to entice the Phillies to include SP Cole Hamels and charge a reduced rate of prospects.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is producing with a .244-10-25 clip, but his value would increase universally with a trade to St. Louis. He's a decent matchup play on FantasyScore.

Phillies | Ryan Howard hot hitter at Busch

Thu, 28 May 2015 12:35:40 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard has a career .343 batting average with 11 homers and 39 RBIs, as well as a 1.111 OPS, in 34 games at Busch Stadium.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has turned his career around following three very disappointing seasons, and there are rumors the St. Louis Cardinals could enter the picture as a trade candidate with 1B Matt Adams (quad) out. Keep an eye on what happens.

Cardinals | Options to replace Matt Adams?

Thu, 28 May 2015 07:31:51 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams (leg) is likely done for the season, which has fueled speculation that the Cardinals could have interest in Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. Milwaukee Brewers 1B Adam Lind and Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau may also be available via trade, Rosenthal writes. Lind has a club option after 2015, and Morneau has a mutual option. The Phillies are willing to cover the majority of Howard's remaining $50 million-plus contract, although the Cardinals seem to have little interest in impeding Adams in 2016. It is unknown if Howard would waive his 10-and-5 rights to accept a trade to St. Louis.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals may try to get by with 1B Mark Reynolds, but a trade is entirely possible to land a complementary bat for matchups against right-handed pitchers. Keep an eye on the situation in the short term.
