Phillies | Tommy Joseph on the bench

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 12:38:16 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Tuesday, July 26. 1B Ryan Howard will start at first base and is batting fourth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Howard has been playing better in July with a .250 batting average and three home runs in 13 games. Owners in daily fantasy leagues that need power could consider using him, but he probably should still be avoided in most leagues.

Phillies | No Tommy Joseph against the Pirates

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:46:36 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 24. 1B Ryan Howard is starting at first base and is batting fourth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph has some feast or famine in his game with a .264/.299/.529 slash line and 13 home runs through 187 plate appearances. He's a fringe own in mixed leagues and viable option in deeper formats. Howard is nothing more than a desperation flier in daily contests Sunday, albeit one with power potential.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph takes a seat

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 11:46:19 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 21. 1B Ryan Howard is starting at first base and is hitting cleanup against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is likely just taking a day off. He's been scorching hot this month, hitting .378 with five home runs and eight RBI after a cold stretch. He's been up and down in his rookie year but should be owned in most deep mixed and NL leagues for his power. Howard has similar power (13 homers) but an ugly .158/.218/.364 slash line. He's an under-the-radar sleeper pick in DFS in a good matchup.

Phillies | Ryan Howard draws first post-break start

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 12:55:43 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is in the lineup, batting fifth against New York Mets SP Logan Verrett and playing first base Saturday, July 16, in place of 1B Tommy Joseph. INF Andres Blanco will hit right behind Howard and replace 2B Cesar Hernandez, while C Carlos Ruiz will fill in for C Cameron Rupp behind the plate and follow Blanco in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Slashing a miserable .158/.217/.356 this season, it is hard to defend using Howard in just about any format. Blanco is getting his first start since July 2 and brings virtually nothing to the fantasy table. Ruiz is 3-for-8 in July but only has 11 RBI in part-time duty this year; he has not homered since April 27, so he can be avoided in fantasy as well.

Phillies | Ryan Howard out against lefty

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 17:11:40 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is out of the lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Anderson. 1B Tommy Joseph will replace Howard and bat fourth.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph has three homers and a .308 average in 39 at-bats against lefties. He could be worth a look in DFS games.

Phillies | Ryan Howard starting again

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 13:52:43 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is starting at first base again and is hitting sixth against Colorado Rockies SP Jon Gray Friday, July 8. 1B Tommy Joseph grabs some pine.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph has fallen on hard times at the plate and is now hitting only .233 with nine home runs and 17 RBI. Howard remains under the Mendoza Line (.158) but has 12 dingers on the year after shooting one out last night. At Coors Field, Howard's daily value is peaking as a sleeper pick.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph not in lineup

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 14:48:13 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 7. 1B Ryan Howard receives the start at first base and is batting sixth against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: Because Howard is hitting a pathetic .151 on the season, his ownership should be limited to NL-only leagues, and DFS players will likely pass him up quickly. However, don't overlook the fact that he does have 11 homers in 64 games and is hitting at Coors Field tonight. Consider him a sleeper consideration.

Phillies | Four regulars return to Phils' lineup

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 07:50:54 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Cody Asche, C Cameron Rupp (elbow), 1B Ryan Howard and SS Freddy Galvis are back in the starting lineup versus Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Sunday, July 3.

Fantasy Tip: All four players were benched versus left-handed SP Danny Duffy Saturday, July 2, after appearing in the lineup Friday, July 1, although Rupp's absence appeared to be injury-related. Rupp is 6-for-13 with two doubles and an RBI in the past seven days, while Asche is 7-for-19 with four doubles and seven RBI over the same span, so both players should be on the radar of daily fantasy gamers looking for inexpensive sources of offense. Howard should continue to be avoided in all fantasy formats.
