Phillies | Ryan Howard finding power stroke

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 17:30:13 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves Sunday, April 26, and all three of his home runs this season have come in his last five games.

Fantasy Tip: After managing just two RBIs in his first 11 games, Howard ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) has seven in his last five games. He could keep the momentum going when Philadelphia opens up a series against St. Louis Monday, April 27. He is hitting .362 in 57 career games against the Cardinals and offers nice upside for the price at FantasyScore.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons okay after collision

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 19:52:44 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons stayed in the game after taking a hard bump from Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) saw his seven-game hitting streak snapped Friday, and he is still looking for his first home run of the year. If you are going to take a chance on a cheaper shortstop at FantasyScore, it is a good idea to choose someone with a little more upside than what Simmons has shown so far this season.

Phillies | Ryan Howard out Thursday

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 07:21:52 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is out of the lineup Thursday, April 23, against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Darin Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of your cap) is in there against Bartolo Colon, but he's just 3-for-30 (.100) to open the season. Avoid him on FantasyScore.

Phillies | Ryan Howard dropped in lineup

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 12:46:44 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard has been dropped to seventh in the batting order against the Washington Nationals Thursday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is off to a .148 (4-for-27) start to the 2015 season with no home runs and just one RBI. During a cold start to the year, and now that he's been dropped in the order, we recommend avoiding Howard at FantasyScore for the time being.

Phillies | Ryan Howard may be in platoon

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 09:23:48 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard has sat out twice in nine games against left-handed pitchers. 1B Darin Ruf has been in against the lefties, but he is just 1-for-17 (.059) on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($2,600, 5.2% of your cap) is hitting just .148 with no homers in 27 at-bats. He's at a huge discount if he finds his power stroke. Howard has started slowly the last three years with a .266-8-30 line in 188 April at-bats. He's a matchup play on FantasyScore, and Ruf should be avoided right now.

Phillies | Ryan Howard sitting out

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 12:42:00 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Wednesday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is receiving the day off since the team is facing a left-handed starter. Darin Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will be starting at first base but may not be a great option on FantasyScore since he has only one hit in 14 at-bats this season.

Phillies | Ryan Howard sitting out vs. Nats

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 12:46:16 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is not in the starting lineup against the Washington Nationals Friday, April 10. 1B/OF Darin Ruf is starting at first base and batting fourth.

Fantasy Tip: While Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has had some success against left-handed pitchers (.253/.353/.486 career slash line), it is a difficult matchup against southpaw Gio Gonzlaez, and the Phillies are the largest underdogs on the docket Friday. Aim higher than Ruf in FantasyScore contests, and make sure to avoid Howard.

Phillies | Ryan Howard could come at a bargain

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 07:19:28 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard has two years and $60 million left on his contract, and the Phillies are willing to pay in the neighborhood of $50 million to facilitate a trade for him.

Fantasy Tip: Howard reported to camp lean and appears to be moving better than he has in recent years. He's still worth eyeing for your CI spot in traditional leagues.

Orioles | Baltimore watching Ryan Howard

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 20:44:58 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles are monitoring Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard during spring training, a source said Monday, March 9.

Fantasy Tip: It 's uncertain where Howard would fit in with Baltimore should he become available, but he could be an attractive option as a designated hitter for the American League team. And serving as DH would help to preserve his health. Stay tuned.

Phillies | Ryan Howard cuts out sugar

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 13:51:30 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard said he cut sugar out of his diet starting back in November of last year, and he's lost 15 to 20 pounds as a result.

Fantasy Tip: Age (35) and injury concerns are reasons why Howard doesn't crack out list of top-20 fantasy baseball first baseman in 2015. However, he was able to play in 153 games in 2014 and put up 23 home runs. However, he hurt his owners with a .223 batting average. If he can stay healthy, Howard could be a sleeper pick late in deep mixed drafts for his pop.
