Updating Saturdayís reports, Associated Press reports Jacksonville Jaguars DE Stalin Colinet (knee) suffered torn cartilage in his left knee. Heíll undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and is expected to be sidelined 2-4 weeks.

Updating an earlier story, Bart Hubbuch reports for the Florida Times-Union free agent DE Stalin Colinet's (Vikings) contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars is a one-year, $650,000 deal that included a $25,000 signing bonus. He counts $450,000 against the Jaguars cap this season under a new rule regarding veteran players.

Bart Hubbuch reports for the Florida Times-Union the Jacksonville Jaguars will have a visit from free agent DL Stalin Colinet (Jaguars) Friday. A previous March 1 story had the Jaguars pursuing Colinet since he played his college ball for Jaguars coach Tom Coughlin at Boston College.

Patriots.com reports free agent DE Stalin Colinet, released by the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, could be a possibility for the New England Patriots. His agent, Brad Blank, hadn't heard from the team as of Friday morning. Blank hopes to find a new home for Colinet soon.

According to John Clayton of ESPN, the Minnesota Vikings saved about $4.29 million in cap space by releasing S Orlando Thomas, LB Ed McDaniel and DL Stalin Colinet on Thursday. However, they gained about an additional $10.6 million because WR Cris Carter and DB Robert Griffith voided their contracts.

Bill Williamson reports for the Pioneer Press Minnesota Vikings DT Willie Howard left in the third quarter of today's game with a right knee injury. As previously reported, DT Chris Hovan (ankle) had already left the game and Howard was taking his place. The Vikings put LDE Stalin Colinet in Hovan's spot and played Lance Johnstone, a pass-rush specialist, at left end.

Mike Wells reports for the Pioneer Press newly acquired Minnesota Vikings DE Stalin Colinet has already been put in the starting lineup at left defensive end. "He'll basically start for us and Talance Sawyer will start for us at right end," coach Dennis Green said. "Lance Johnstone will now be a pass rusher coming in on nickel-type situations. Whether or not that will be the role he'll play all year, we'll see. But this week that will be his role." The addition of Colinet should allow Johnstone, who is sackless this season, to be fresh during the fourth quarter.

ESPN's John Clayton reports after trading for DE Stalin Colinet earlier today, the Minnesota Vikings worked out a new contract with him. Colinet reworked his contract with the Vikings because he came out ahead because the Browns gave him a $1.7 million signing bonus during the off-season. He is signed through 2003.

As an update to a previous story, Len Pasquarelli reports for ESPN.com the Cleveland Browns hopes of trading for Miami Dolphins DT Damian Gregory took a hit today. Gregory was forced to undergo surgery on his spleen. Cleveland had reached an agreement in principle to acquire Gregory from the Dolphins in exchange for a low-round draft choice. The non-trade for Gregory could also force the Browns to change their mind on their trade of DE Stalin Colinet to the Minnesota Vikings for a late-round pick.

The Star Tribune reports the Minnesota Vikings are reportedly close to reacquiring DL Stalin Colinet from the Cleveland Browns for an undisclosed draft choice, according to people familiar with the talks. The deal, which would be the third trade between the teams this season, likely will be completed Tuesday.

The Canton Repository reports both Cleveland Browns QB Tim Couch and RB Errict Rhett said it has become clear to them changing head coaches was a good idea. Both pointed to locker room division last season as one big reason a change was needed. S Percy Ellsworthís starting free safety job is in jeopardy after he made just one interception in 16 starts last year. He acknowledged he had a poor season in 2000, but the he will play better this season. He said he felt sorry for former coach Chris Palmer, who was fired. DE Keith McKenzie knows there is a strong possibility he will go back to the passing-down role he had with the Packers. Courtney Brown will be one starter at defensive end and Stalin Colinet could join him in the starting lineup. Coach Butch Davis said MLB Wali Rainer practiced well on Monday.

The Beacon Journal reports it looks like the Browns three key free agents FB Marc Edwards, DT Stalin Colinet and WR David Patten will hit the open market on Friday. Following up on last night's report, free agent RB Charlie Garner has informed his agent that the Browns are high on his list of teams. "If we get to free agency on Friday, the Cleveland Browns are a team I will try to talk to," agent Scott Crawford said. A short list of teams, Cleveland, Carolina, Chicago and San Francisco are on Garner's list. The 49ers currently don't have the money to re-sign Garner.

Browns | Brown Shift Still Being Discussed

As a follow up to a previously reported story, the Plain Dealer's Tony Grossi reports they are still discussing in Cleveland Browns camp the move of DE Courtney Brown to the right side of the defensive line. VP Dwight Clark said before Butch Davis was hired and brought in his new staff that was the consensus in Cleveland. New defensive coordinator stated moving Brown to the right side may be the best thing to do. If Brown moves, Keith McKenzie becomes a backup and Orpheus Roye could end up at left end. The team is also looking to potentially add two new defensive tackles. Current DTs, Stalin Colinet and Mike Thompson, are unsigned and will be unrestricted free agents on March2. Davis wonít commit automatically to moving Brown to right end. Training camp will be in Berea in 2001, but after that as previously reported, the Browns might relocate elsewhere.
